So, I made a field trip this morning to do some research.
What you see here is one 40lb case of jumbo chicken wings, and a 30lb case of jumbo turkey wings they cut at the joints and bagged for me.
The 40lb case was divided into 10lb bags. The count actually varied by a lot per bag - 26, 30.5, 21, and 22 whole wings.
The turkey wings varied in size but all drumettes were at least chicken drumstick in meat yield and many approached your ordinary thanksgiving turkey leg. 20 whole wings in that.
So, basically, 70lbs of turkey and chicken wings yielded 40 turkey party wings, and 199 chicken party wings. Each turkey wing is ~1.5lbs, and it was 4.975 chicken wings to a pound.
I actually kind of prefer jumbo turkey wings but they aren't easily found. You can, with determination, actually get a bite or two out of the tips.
My hands are numb and my freezer is full. Based on this research, assuming a dozen jumbo party wings per person and 10 people at the house, I think we’re going to need 150lbs of chicken.
. Haha, nah, probably about 30.
