Just booked my accommodations.  I'm looking at plane tickets tonight.  Let me know what I have to do for admission and if I should book a car from the airport for the weekend.  I would like to get one as I don't drink anymore and I am really considering being a DD.

You can book a car for the weekend if you want. I don’t think you’ll need one for Zapcon activities as we have plenty of locals to carpool with if we go anywhere other than the convention center.
Also, please consider the Official Zapcon BYOAC Shuttle Service. You just let me know what time and airline and I pick you up in a beautiful 1978 Pontiac Trans Am (gold with T-Tops).
Ask around here, I have good references
TacoTownCharlie, at your service.

That may have been the coolest car I’ve ever ridden in in my life.

TTC my accommodations are about 2 miles away from the convention center.  I don't want to put anyone out....

Just remember that life is a little different out in the desert.

They are intimidated by eye contact, so don't do that weird European thing with the unblinking stare and expectant look you give everyone.  I've seen an episode of Downton Abbey, I know what I'm talking about.

Nobody cares that you think it's hot.

If you already know a BYOACer, or get to know one in the future, don't just walk up to him/her and interrupt when they are with other members. Wait till he/she acknowledges you first and NEVER touch them or put your arm around them like a buddy. Don't put your hand out to shake theirs; wait for them to extend their hand first. If for some reason you're not acknowledged at all, then just keep walking.  If you need to talk to a moderator of BYOAC the proper way is to go through the Sgt at Arms or one of the other members.

DO NOT touch or sit on a BYOACers game unless invited to do so.  Do not expect the invitation.

Have absolutely no doubt that ZAPCON is serious and many have been known to physically educate a person who shows disrespect or displays a bad attitude.

Ohh yots...

Well you should all know before we get there:

Despite what you may see in that show we are not snobby english people with a posh accent.

We dont have huge mannor houses (shame that one would make a killer arcade!!)

We dont wear tweed.

We defo do not drink lots of port or brandy.

Oh and no, We do not know x/y/z from a,b,c or any of the royal family.

Never watched downton so thats all the stereo types I can think of that would likely be in it lol

I was in San Francisco when it was 62 degrees and sunny. People were in hats and coats.

Even the guy on the corner furiously pleasuring himself was bundled up.

59 degrees is t shirt weather.

I was in San Francisco when it was 62 degrees and sunny. People were in hats and coats.

My wife and I went to Alcatraz one year and the weather was 65° and overcast.  On the boat ride I took off my hoodie so I just had on a t-shirt and people were looking at me like I was crazy.  60° weather is definitely t-shirt weather.

Visitors to SF don't know how cold it can get there.
It's not like regular california, SF is a breed onto it's own.

When I lived there, 80% of the time it was windy and cold. That pacific ocean breeze is no joke.

You tourists come for a weekend and scoff at the people bundled up.  But you don't know. You really don't know...

Yeah, well, it's in the 80s here today and so humid it's like breathing through a wet sponge.

Phoenix heat ain't no joke, but it does cool down quickly once the sun gets low.  I'm one of those flip flops in the snow guys, so whatever.

Mike and I completely understand Opt.  It may not be as harsh as the wind coming off the ocean but we get a good taste of it from the lake effect weather.

If I go to SF  - It's 'Yank Sing' for Dim-sum first and everything else second.  One of my top 3 places to eat in the US..  and I can't remember the other 2 at the moment.

(very close to the boat for Alcatraz!)

If I go to SF  - It's 'Yank Sing' for Dim-sum first and everything else second.  One of my top 3 places to eat in the US..  and I can't remember the other 2 at the moment.

(very close to the boat for Alcatraz!)

We will check that out if we find it :)

I mean, if you like getting up at 6am and standing in line to go visit a prison I'm sure you'll have a great time.  I've lived in a lot of port cities so I didn't care about seeing stuff like fish markets.

We had more fun in Napa and Sonoma but we're wine people.   :dunno  Do the silly wine train thing.

Chinatown was kinda cool.  Bins of immoral sharkfin that sells for thousands of dollars a pound laying out in the open.  Chinamen illegally gambling in the park complete with spotters watching for cops.  Good times.

We stayed at an awesome hotel in the middle of an industrial park at Oyster Point.  Genentech bought it, tore it down, and built a gigantic R&D building there.   :'(

Also has anyone managed to track down mega sombreros for our pasty white welsh asses?? Lol

I’ve got you two penciled in for the round trip to/from the airport and hotel, so your good there. I’ll look for hats this weekend and post pics for your approval.
