Hi,

I have no other choice but to install a CRT TV into my cab due to my previous arcade monitor having failed with no chances for recovery. I have picked up here in Europe a JVC 21 inch 50hz PAL TV set from around 2000 which gives a very nice picture.
The specs of my hardware are as is :
Win XP
Arcade VGA based on Radeon 9200 (old model)
Groovymame 1.48 (I did not upgrade as I am fine with this version)
Crt emudriver and Vmmaker 1.2c (what is reffered to as "obsolete drivers" but working with XP)
With my previous arcade monitor everything was working perfect and I could just display both horizontal and vertical games on the horizontal monitor (a minor tweak of the Vsize was done to fit vertical games with a very limited top/bottom black band on horizontal games.)

I did not touch any of the settings done in the VMmaker.ini file and tried on the fly the TV set but the result on vertical games is not good and most of the bottom and top part of the video are missing. I tried to play with the options of the TV service menù but that will not shrink the vertical image (just move the whole raster till the 3 red, green, blue lines pop up.). Also most of the vertical games have the bottom part completely messed up.
These are the specs used with my previous dedicated arcade monitor which were working fine.
monitor_specs0 15625-16200, 49.50-65.00, 2.000, 4.700, 8.000, 0.064, 0.192, 1.024, 0, 0, 256, 448

What could be the good presets to use for a this tv set to avoid the tearing effect at the bottom?
I have attached a copy of the ini file in case. (please note that two presets are recorded because my previous monitor was a dual 15/24 khz.
Thanks
Rick

Are you sure that TV can't do 60Hz ? most european scart TVs past 1993~1994 or something do, it's pretty rare to find one that doesn't and I'm not exaggerating.
It's often labelled as NTSC playback mode and not directly specified on the backside nor in the specs, could be a mention buried in the manual.

I think it does. I am located in Europe and this JVC TV is dated around beginning of 2000. I have the service manual enclosed here if this may help to find out. There is only marked 50hz at the back of the TV. I have checked another Grundig TV I have and I do read 50/60hz at the back.
So you mean that I cannot display correctly any MAME roms originally developed for NTSC countries with this JVC?

EDIT *****
Have been through the service manual and I think it handles NTSC as per this section snapshot

that tv would certainly be ok to display 60hz

however it is often too much of a struggle for consumer tv's to have success displaying vertical games in horizontal orientation like you are trying to do in your pictures
(your previous specs for the arcade monitor may not be possible with the jvc tv:
     monitor_specs0 15625-16200, 49.50-65.00, 2.000, 4.700, 8.000, 0.064, 0.192, 1.024, 0, 0, 256, 448)

Generic_15 should work out of the box. You may still need to adjust your horizontal porch timings to center and size the image - go into ArcadeOSD and have a play, remembering that you can hit Esc to go back at any time if you scramble the picture.

You could also try the Arcade_15 preset and find out how well it works by testing each resolution in ArcadeOSD. A lot of TV's can get pretty close. Note what works and what doesn't, and see if you can figure out what's different and where your limits probably are. then read the monitor presets sticky in this subforum and see if you can create a custom range line for the TV.

Hi Buttersoft,
thanks for the help I will try to play more with the settings then.
I have temporarily installed a 21 inch grundig tv set and the new Vmaker. Results with the Grundig are satisfying despite the fact that the image has glitches and rumors probably due to the PSU area which needs a total new recapping. I would like to use the JVC Tv for its better image quality and its built in service menu so I will take the time and play around with the Crt modelines.
