Fill holes shallow with bondo? - Threaded Inserts
« on: May 15, 2019, 01:58:32 pm »
All,

I've got a CP where i Drilled all the way through on accident when tyring to put in threaded inserts.  The inserts are screwed into the bottom of the Panel.  I want to bondo the holes on the top of the board, but am worried about forcing enough bondo down in the holes that it'll make the hole too shallow and have the screw push the bondo back up once dried.

Any good methods for dealing with this?

You could put a small barrier behind the insert so the bondo does not get any further down the hole.

Yep. I've done that before too.  ::)

Chuck the screw in the other side as far as it needs to go in and it will act as a barrier. The Bondo wont be able to get past but wont grip the screw enough to stop it from being unscrewed again.

See I was afraid the bonds would lock the screw in there.  I’ll drop in the screws and go for it.

Tighten the screw deeper than it will be when the joystick (or bracket?)  is installed.

Use a bit of tape to block the hole.

If you're worried about bondo working past the tape, seal the edge of the tape to the side of the hole with clear nail polish.

If you need clearance above the insert, pack some cotton around the screw to support the tape.  After the bondo dries, you can pull the cotton out through the insert using needlenose tweezers or a hook made of wire.

cover the back of the hole with duct tape. get some bondo in there, let it cure, remove the tape and fill in the rest of the hole. Ive done it that way NUMEROUS times without issue.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.
