  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
I have a cab that has a couple of round/dome bolt heads exposed on the cabinet sides for holding the monitor bracket to the sides.  I'm going to be applying a full-cover vinyl artwork once I sand and bondo it, but I'm unsure whether I want to have the bolt heads visible in the finished result.  The bolt heads are round/hemispherical with no washer.
If I overlay the vinyl on the bolts, it'll hide them but will likely mean that there's an imperfect bubble, and weak areas around the head where the vinyl can't adhere, exposing it to future damage/tears.
If I remove the bolts before applying the vinyl then stick them back in, I'll have ugly bolts showing on top of the artwork.

What's considered best practice?  I'd like to hide them but if I recall from my childhood days of putting stickers on things, it's not going to look good if there's a large bubble, and someone could easily run their fingernail around it to break it.

Which cab is it?

The artwork goes on first and the bolts are exposed.

Originally an NBA Jam cab that was previously converted to Golden Tee 2K, now being converted to Mame.  I've had full coverage vinyl graphics printed for the sides.  I'll have to carefully remove the bolts one side at a time and try not to have the CRT frame distort internally while doing it.

with my TMNT I counter sunk the monitor bolts to hide them. Midway cabs had the bolt heads exposed. I think exposed looks better.

Lay the cab on its side, take the bolts out, apply art. Put the bolts back in. flip it over, repeat.

Good advice about laying on the side.  Am still at the wood repair / wood hardener / bondo / sand / prime / paint stage of the wood bits.  Have completed all the artwork design, CP layout, computer hardware / software etc.

Now the tedious work begins.
