JVC AV-32D302
« on: March 21, 2019, 01:13:04 am »
There's a JVC  AV-32D302 sitting at a goodwill about 3 miles away from me for $24.99

I've only ever experienced a GM setup working on a flat Trinitron and would love to see it on a "bubble tube"

I can't get the damn beast in my small car *cries* not sure what the hell I can do.

Anyone else out there used this particular model for a GM setup before I got wrestle a beast :P ???

It looks like a 15khz set with Component input.  You would also need a VGA to component transcoder (not converter) to get the PC signal to the TV.

If 32” is too much to mess with, check Craigslist, Facebook, LetGo, the side of the road for a much more manageable 27” set.  Outside of Sony PVM/BVM sets, the best consumer grade TV you are going to get is a Sony FV310.  It took me around 2 years to finally find one, but it was worth it.  This thread on Reddit has some current CRT listings which might help:

If I were you, I'd find a way to pick up that JVC. I prefer the look of arcade games on a curved crt and espiecially those with a corse pitch like a real arcade monitor tube. It's not that easy to find one with component video so grab it before someone else does. Even if you can't close your trunk or have to put it on the front seat, or borrow a car, or uber or steel one if you have to.

I used to use a JROK to convert RGBS from a PC to component video. It works very well.

Yeah, you make some great points there.

So I went back to the Goodwill and the JVC is still there but they also have a Dynex DX-R27TV
My instincts tell me that the JVC is better, but I'm not sure. I'm tempted to get both of them.
Does anyone here know anything about Dynex? If you could only choose one which one would you choose and why?

I feel your pain....I had a chance to get a 36 inch curved JVC with component inputs for 30 dollars but I had no way to fit it in my car and the seller refused to help me even move it. Had to let it go. That's why the largest CRT's I have are 27. They're the only ones I'm able to wrap my arms around to carry without needing someone else.

Having to still lug these things around in 2020 is ludicrous. Whoever makes the LCD to truly replace the CRT will be a god.

If you're looking for a screen which is kind of a breed between CRTs and LCDs, give the (very) old plasmas a go.

There are some 4:3 640x480 Plasmas which have a CRT-ish feeling.

On a scale of fakeness, from more genuine to more fake, we'd have:

1.- Plastic plants (cf. Fake Plastic Trees)
2.- Inflatable dolls
3.- Arcade cabinets with LCD monitors

The JVC is now in my home tonight  ;D It was also 50% off because the color of the sticker matched their special so I scored it for 12 bucks.

The glass of the tube is absolutely flawless. There's not one scratch or ding on it.

I can't wait now until the Retrotek VGACTV1 arrives!
