Finished - JROK Multi-Williams Pedestal

I have always considered a Robotron as my Holy Grail arcade cabinet, knowing that finding one in the kind of shape I would want it to be is was gonna cost me $1200+ easily I decided I would just make my own using the JROK board and some Dominux8 Joysticks from GroovyGameGear. After having to sell my San Francisco Rush 2049SE cabinet I had some space in the basement. My son got a fancy new 144Mhz curved monitor for XMAS and decided he no longer wanted the 2 - 28" I-INC monitors he had, so I mounted them on the wall, pulled my dedicated Mame trackball pedestal out from under the basement stairs and got to work designing and building a pedestal for the project..

You may have noticed the monitor in the final picture is not the same as the first one.  For whatever reason the I-INC monitor and the JROK board did not get along.  Using a 32" Vizio TV I have had for 10+ years turned out to be a blessing. With all the adjustments, the picture is damn near 4:3 just like an original Robotron, I have no complaints with how it looks.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask, will do my best to answer them..

The build has been kept pretty simple, Melamine sides and back, ATX power supply modded to be on whenever the power switch is pressed, 12v LED behind the marquee running from power supply, just a single row of LEDs, lights things just fine.

GameonGrafix printed the final CPO using their fantastic CPO sticky stock, could not have asked for anything to feel more original.

I still need to paint the front piece black and decide if I will install casters or not on the bottom, other than that, this project is basically done!!

The race to 1,000,000 is on, current high score, 707.975 ( difficulty 3, free man every 20,000 )

Nice!  Hard to tell from the pics, but have you introduced HLSL or GLSL effects on the LCD’s to make them look more like a CRT?

I do not think that is an option when using the JROK board, I do think there is a setting for adding scan lines but no, I have not set that. Using this old TV and it getting a 640x480 signal at 60hrz means the picture is not exactly razor sharp. Since this is not an actual CRT, for now, I think this is as good as it is gonna get and honestly, I am totally fine with it. :-)

After a fair amount of play testing, I finally had to admit it, playing for a long time standing up is not as easy as it used to be.. With the currently setup front of the cabinet, playing Robotron was a bit uncomfortable, so, since this thing is made out of wood.. I fixed the problem..

Cut a hole in the pedestal front about 6.5" deep and low enough and enough room right and left that my old ass can get a stool, comfortably reach all the controls, and play until my heart is content..

Also designed another small graphic to sit in the bottom of the new space ( to cover up a seam in 2 adjoining pieces of Melamine..

I do not hit my legs or my shins when sitting on a stool so I totally am calling this is win..  Was a bit nervous cutting a hole into the front piece but I took my time and used my $99 track saw from Menards to make some plunge cuts that were also very straight and cleaned up the edges with a jig saw.. The whole thing is gonna get a good sanding and repainted with a foam brush or maybe even powder coated here shortly.
Once that is done, will not be much else to do but enjoy it!!
