COoperative VIDeogame
« on: April 03, 2020, 03:59:21 am »
So my country (South Africa) is in COVID lockdown, which means that I have some extra time at home.
So finally started on my cabinet.

Mainly inspired by this great cabinet from @tomton
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,161101.0.html

I was on a tight budget, and only have handtools at home.
Got half a sheet plywood at < $10, and the controls I bought years ago, and the PC (Pentium Dual Core, socket 1150) I got at a charity shop for $30.
The 32" screen I got for free after my borther-in-law upgraded his.
The rest of the wood bits and pieces was offcuts from my mom redoing her kitchen.

Its a slim one :) How you attaching to the wall, because I know from experience that tall thin things not attached easily topple  :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

I attached some feet, and the whole cabinet leans slightly backwards.
Secondly, I have a very heavy weight (PC, xbox, wii) all in the bottom.
It is so slim, the centre of gravity is actually on the back side, so super stable.
But, since I have little ones, I will be attaching it with a latch to the wall.

The reason for the slimness, is that it is in an duet-house (as in two houses on top of each other, I have the top house).
So limited space. I got the space in front of the prepaid electricity meter (the thing with the keypad) so really really space limited.
The cabinet actually had to be sized around these constraints.

And if you still have not guessed, still have some last finishes to do, as in the marquee, front panel, screen cover, painting, etc.  :)

True dat. One fella on here built a huge tall arcade machine called Monolith. It fell on him and killed him. Just be careful.
