It’s beautiful in Ruidoso but ---goshdarn--- there are a lot of Texans here.  I say this as a son of a signer.  And they’re the weird desert Texans.

Picked up an Asteroids cabinet yesterday, my daughter seemed enthused:

The guy I bought it off is on KLOV (goes by Scott451), and is working on creating the Tempest, Major Havoc, Omega Race, & Quantum games on an FPGA board for use in a Wells Gardner 6100 Vector monitor.  He's breaking new ground on some of this stuff, and his lab was impressive.  We talked for over an hour about arcade stuff.  The guy even got access to the machine and code that was used to create the death star in the first Star Wars and recreated the exact code on an FPGA board, and allowed me to play with some potentiometer nobs and rotate the death star in all directions.  Very cool to nerd out with a fellow arcade guy who will forget more than I'll ever learn.

I bought two dance pads for the hold bars.  Anyone want the pads?  Make Dance Dance Asteroids a reality, folks.  I played a DDR pad hooked up to a pinball a few years ago, it was dreadful.

just happened to be out today and they got some family sized boxes of monster cereal in.  Got me a box of Boo Berry and a box of Franken Berry.  With any luck they might last me the weekend as I'm going to destroy those things.  I might even get freaky and mix me a bowl of half and half.   :burgerking:

Found these today.  A rooftop campus bar changed owners and they’ve gone “totally 80s.”  Drink prices are still postmodern rich.

Those beat up machines are a crime against humanity.  For the love of god somebody get some proper side art for that MK II.  I mean the generic black vinyl I get, but "ARCADE" on the side.... the perpetrator must be flogged until soggy.

Nice pickup!!!

  It's funny you posted this as I had my first get together with friends this last weekend since buying the machine and it was a hit.  Funny how a Black and White game with "just" buttons, can still be so entertaining.  Those bullet shots on a real vector just can't be duplicated.

I already have my place in line for the FPGA board that Brian demoed at Zapcon.  I was blown away with that board, and am already scheming ways to play all the games.

My recollection was that it was an MK2 panel.  They charged me $9 for a vodka soda, so I wasn't exactly going to stick around and pump quarters in their games.

I have thought about getting one of these a few times but the price was always to high and for the amount of games it could actually play I could never justify it.
But I saw this bundle going for a fair price and thought what the hell, Going to treat myself for xmas :)

I walked 10 miles in Phoenix today.  There’s a pinball arcade accessed through a walk in freezer, and there’s a video arcade across from the ASU campus.  There’s also a brewery that sells deep fried Brussels sprouts.  Thus far, this has been a good trip.

I finally finally finally finished the makeover for my kid's room - I'll leave the decorating to her but construction and painting is complete.  Started back in June and all other projects went on the back burner.  Wanted to be done by school starting but no such luck.  I learned a lot - mainly that for a project this big I'm hiring someone next time - but I think it came out... OK.  There are a lot of little things I would do differently but I don't think anyone will really notice all of the imperfections once the bookshelves are filled and the room is decorated.

I learned a fair amount from this project like how awesome nail guns are and how not to cut crown moulding and how thick you can go with the caulk/spackle to cover up huge mistakes.  Painting it (primer + 2 coats) pushed my patience to the limit.  Lots of nooks and crannies where paint wanted to drip and also meant a ton of brushwork.

The final touch was wiring up the chandelier although I'm not sure it will be the final light fixture.  I'm happy it's over (and I like it!).

Yeah javeryh, that looks really good.  And to be fair to you, even if you paid contractors to do it, they are not perfect as well.
I recently paid to get my kitchen renovation done, and there are definitely parts of it that have some 'mistakes'.  Mistakes that we can live with, for now, but I'm sure my OCD will get the better of me and I'll have to fix them later on.

Oooohhh kitchen renovation... that's the next "major" project on our list.  How did that go?  We can't decide if we want to knock down walls and relocate water and gas lines like crazy people or just get new cabinets, appliances and countertops and call it a day.  We are leaning towards craziness only because my kitchen takes up 1/4 of the first floor yet there isn't enough room for a table so there's a lot of wasted space in the middle of the room (and not nearly enough for an island).  Seems expensive though!

It went really well!

Our home was built in the 60’s, and the kitchen needed a full reno.

We actually did end up moving water and gas lines, like crazy people. Moving the stove placement also came with ventilation relocation, closing a doorway to gain some floor space which we put the fridge in,  And that increased counter space. The laundry closet had a full-sized washer/dryer, so we divided that closet in half and installed a stacked washer/dryer, further gaining more counter space. In case you’re wondering, our garage is unfortunately not attached to the house, so that’s why the laundry was installed next to the kitchen originally.
We installed new cabinets w/ the soft closing hundred, new appliances, and a bigger (farmhouse) sink. Recess lighting...even converted that weird pantry cabinet on the right to a "coffee counter".

Overall it took about 1 month for the whole project. It wasn’t cheap :(
We’re really chuffed with it now, it’s new and modern and spacious. We *might* look into getting an island later, but I kinda like the openness of it now.

That looks fantastic! I think I would put an island in though. I like counter space (not that I have any in my townhome).

Correct! We moved in at the same time the reno started.
I don't recommend living through a renovation. In retrospect we should have got the reno started before we took possession of the house.  But instead, we moved in, put most of our stuff in the garage, and lived out of the bedroom side of the house while the kitchen and part of the living room was worked on.  It was hell.

That looks fantastic! I think I would put an island in though. I like counter space (not that I have any in my townhome).

Yeah I'm still struggling with this decision. My wife really wants one, but I'm kinda on the fence.

Tell her you'll compromise if you can put the Robotron in the corner ;)

Make a standing cocktail and put laminate on it and it will blend right in.

Use thick plexiglass on the top, buff out the scratches once a year.

Wow what a difference - so open and the layout make a lot more sense.  It came out really really nice.  I'm not sure you need an island either unless you would still have plenty of space to walk around it.  A friend of mine crammed an island in their kitchen and any time there are more than 2 people around it there isn't enough room for them to pass each other because of the narrow walkways around the thing.  Big mistake, IMO.

Did the contractors need to get access from the basement to move any of the lines or could they do it all in the kitchen?  My basement is finished so any work in my kitchen would need to be done from above, which probably means ripping up the floor in spots.

My house is coming up on 100 years old (I also have a detached garage but my laundry room is in the basement) and the last time the kitchen was updated was before we moved in 16+ years ago.  It looks OK-ish but the cheap home depot laminated cabinets are peeling all over the place.  We also renovated the rest of the first floor about 6 years ago and by opening it up we lost a TON of cabinet spaced/storage.  We currently have nowhere to store food in the kitchen - the pantry (if you can even call it that) is in the basement, which is a pain.

After seeing what you did I'm going to really explore doing something in my house soon - it makes a huge difference.

Take out the walls. That's what I did. It made a world of difference.

Normally I'd agree with you 100% but the kitchen is actually the only room on the first floor that has any walls at all.  The rest of the floor plan is open (and even the kitchen has a bar with 4 chairs so that "wall" is 1/2 open too).  It's definitely a design issue for me because if I took down the last wall I could probably get a really nice island and a lot more storage and just make it all work better, however, this would mean not a single wall on the first floor other than the outer walls, which I think would look very weird.  Or maybe not?  I need to get some designs done to see what it would look like.
