Arachnid dart machine orange text monitor. Help...
« on: January 23, 2019, 10:15:12 pm »

I have an Arachnid Galaxy dart board; built in 1996. It has the 12 inch amber monitor which now the bottom half of the screen not have shrunken graphics, top part is ok. I adjust the pots in the back, horizontal and vertical, but can't get it any better.

Ideas? Anything I could try to adjust if I take the case of or unplug? I've seen these site below, but don't think I can do a repair myself. I'm in PA. Hope someone can help me.

its a vertical linearity issue, there may be a pot for this but as this has just done this i would suggest looking at the electrolytic caps and then vertical deflection ic

Like grantspain mentioned look for the pot, its like a little wheel on the pcb board around the monitor, if you know how to solder then either look for a cold solder joint or start replacing the capacitors. google the name of the dart board with problem and you'll find your answer.

Looks like you have a Goldstar MBM-2105A monitor. It appears the fault is bad electrolytic capacitors and you likely need a capkit for that monitor. I have a brief repair guide here for that monitor:

@Ken Layton - thank you. Just to be sure, I pulled the monitor out of the cabinet. It's got an all black case and says "Arachnid model SB31-10u/V 12" monochrome Display, power 35 watts - manufactured november 1996"

THis looks just like my monitor here:

https://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-monitors/Arachnid%20Monitor.pdf

Also, it's the V hold pot that is super sensitive, and the bottom of the screen displays stuff shruken. I can pull of the case for fun and take some pics. I'm just a newbie and not sure I can handle stuff myself. No one around here wants to mess with it, and kinda scared to ship this thing off somewhere and having it get smashed. Hopefully you guys can walk me through this? I attached some pics but again, not really sure what I'm looking at. No loose solder that I can see?

Ken, where are you located?

After digging around my old files on my old Win 98 laptop, I found my guide to the SB31 monitor and posted it here:

Damn, I missed this post! Had it at a local tv repair place and they replaced one cap that was puffed out a little, but no change. I didn't see this reply....

Also found this!

Ok, it's FIXED! I wanted to update this post! After some digging found this place in NY!

https://www.amusementsplus.com/Contact.php

I sent it in, and they had it fixed in 2-3 days! Was a reasonable price and they can repair just about anything and have all the parts for arcade, dart machines, and just about any electronic item!

If you call in, ask for ED and tell him you saw the post on the forum! I also have pics of the old parts if anyone wants to see. Let me know and I'll post them up!

Glad you were able to get it fixed. That place is local to me and very good to get parts from.

As ken mentioned, if you know which part they replaced (probably listed on the work order) then that would help others in the future who might have this issue.
