Joystick removable shaft.
« on: January 22, 2019, 04:44:40 am »
Hi, for my project I am looking for a removable shaft joystick. I only can find stuff you can buy in USA only I live in Holland and that is really expensive. Can anyone tell me how to make this from a normal one or can I buy something like this on AliExpress?

Not sure what you mean. Most joysticks allow the shaft to be removed by popping off the clip on the bottom.

If you are looking for a easy remove solution that can be removed from the top I dont know of any.

Pretty sure he's looking for something like the top-removable replacement shaft The Link by Phreakmods.

Focus Attack carries them in various colors for JLF, LS-32, and LS-56 sticks.

Paradise Arcade Shop also carries them here.

Not sure if there are any European vendors that stock them.   :dunno

Yeah this one above post, is it possible to make this?
Making one from scratch is almost certainly going to be more expensive than shipping and it probably won't work as smoothly.
- I assume if you had access to a metal lathe that could also cut threads you wouldn't be asking if making a top-removable shaft was possible.

1. You may want to ask clayton@phreakmods.com if there are any European vendors that carry The Link.

2. If there aren't any European vendors, get shipping quotes from Focus Attack and Paradise Arcade Shop.
- A banner on the Focus Attack page mentions "save 25% on global shipping".   ;D

You could ask Arno from Arcadewinkel.nl if he can order those from one of his international vendors...

Modding an existing joystick for quick-removal would not be that difficult.

You could use one of the many existing quick-connects that are usually sold as Drill or screwdriver attachment kits.
(Air-hose connects could be used too... but... those tend to be thicker in diameter)

 You then would just

 - cut the original joystick shaft
 - grind a notch on the bottom end of the shaft with a dremel, or maybe a round metal file.
 - Once the fit works properly with the adapter,  then cut the adapter shaft to desired length
 - Round (grind) the end portion of the typically hexagonal shaft of the adapter
 - Cut off the ball of the original stick, and drill a hole to match the adapter shaft end.
(if no ball exists, buy a wooden ball, or plastic ball,  that best suits the size desired)
 - Use Epoxy, or Epoxy paste, to permanently glue the shaft into the ball (or bat top).
   * Note: Make sure epoxy is mixed extremely well... especially true with epoxy putty.
 - Wait 24 hrs for full cure before use.

How about a heavy-duty key chain splitter?
