U-HID Gas pedal not working in MAME

I can go to game controllers and see it moving up and down the Y axis. I can also assign it to X or Z and get it working within Windows.  What I can't get is MAME to acknowledge any movement or the device is there.
I select the control and push the pedal but nothing shows up....   what am I missing?

Did you add -joystick to your Mame command line or check off joystick if using Mame UI?

I feel so stupid. It would seem so obvious! Thanks so much for the help. 

Now its wide open until I push down and if I reverse it I get nothing. I think I read or watched something about this. I'll dig deeper!

No problem Is the car stopping when you step on your pedal and accelerating when you let go? If so, I believe you can press tab on the keyboard and go into the analog settings to reverse the y-axis.

Thanks everyone for the help! I've gotten the gas working correctly now as well. I calibrated the Y and went back in and set up the control and they all seem to be working correctly. Some games would not go full throttle or was going wide up. Now that I have calibrated it they all seem to be working.
