LCD is going bad what do I do??
« on: December 09, 2018, 09:57:21 pm »
Hi, I built a modified Vigolix a few years ago.  I spray painted the plexi glass to fit an old Samsung LCD monitor that I mounted into the cabinet.  Now the LCD is developing vertical lines on the right hand side of the screen.  I went to try to get an exact replacement but they're about as much as a new one.  And they would be used.

How tough is it to find the exact screen dimesions for a new LCD?  or do I need to buy a new plexi and mask it all over again?

Also if I get a replacement 23" lcd montitor will that have the same dimensions as my old samsung?  Do monitors have  setting to shrink the screen size?

TIA

the panels themselves are all standard. provided you buy the same size screen, the panel dimensions should be identical.

(sans the bezel or other embellishments.)

I had the same issue with my LG with the infamous setup overlay issue.  Could not find the same monitor, but scoured the 2nd hand markets and Goodwill stores and found one.  Cost like $10 plus some scratches. You can also try a new controller for the panel if getting it in and out of your cabinet is an issue.  Lines sound like a power board issue or the connectors.  IF it is the board, you could try reflowing it by putting it in an oven at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes on a pizza box.  It might smell up your kitchen a bit.  :lol
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

It can be done, just measure the screen dimensions and have at ebay etc.

I replaced my old Dell with a HP the same size.

I got a 27“ crt that is only 16“ deep. Give that baby some back? Consider it a counter weight for stability. :dunno  :laugh2:
