I had a somewhat similar experience. Homeless guy was wanting some money for the bus, gave him $5 while I had my garage door open, and I have a questionable amount of goodies in there. This all happened when I was backing out of the drive, so I went around the block and the guy was trying to open the garage door. Police called, and after a hour, waved good bye to him as the cruiser drove off. I should have gotten my $5 back.
This got me really shook up. Even though I have insurance, I will not get the money back on the toys I have. I added two wifi Wyze cameras I got on Amazon for $25 each that is compatible with Alexa, and had the garage door reinforced. Do not use the wyze camera for bedroom or living room surveillance, as their IP address for some reason routes to China.
Getting your tools stolen must be heartbreaking, even with home insurance you will not get them back. Tools are very personal, most of the time it is something you bought to fix a project or it was a gift from a loved one. I am so sorry that you were robbed, and thanks for sharing it with us. I would check with all the pawn stores in a 50 mile radius, just in case.
Maybe this is a good time for everyone to review their home security.
Christmas is coming and thieving scumbags have no money or ethics.
