Official Sega Saturn racing wheel for Model 2 games??? General questions

I am looking at getting a racing wheel for my machine, but I dont want to spend $200 for one of the logitech ones. I am also a Sega Saturn collector, and have heard GREAT things about that wheel. I would have to get the adapter of course, to make it work on a PC. I am by NO means as serious driving sim enthusiast (honestly Model 2 games and a couple of N64 ports would be the only driving games I'm interested in).

So my question is this, has anyone used the Saturn wheel for model 2 games? If so what are your thoughts? Is it a mistake to go this route? If so, can someone help guide me in the right direction? At first I had PLANNED on using the Saturn wheel, but im worried about the axis controls that model 2 games seem to require (at least the do when I play with the 360 controller). I can't map the gas to a button only to an axis. So I'm worried the Saturn Wheel will be non functional for them. So I've been looking at the xbox 360 wheel (since I already have the 360 adapter). I've also been looking at the Hori PS4/PC wheel, but since I run Windows XP, I'm worried it wont pick it up (is this EVER a problem?)

Again, im not really trying to have the best wheel ever, just something that will work well. I just want them to be better than with a controller or joystick. Off the top of my head, the ONLY games im really interested in are the model 2 racers, Out run, and a few N64 ports (Francisco Rush, etc).

I'm not sure about the Saturn Wheel.

I'd recommend waiting for an older used logitech wheel to come along for around $30-40.
I used the black Logitech MOMO for years and it works great with emulators (sold it a month ago for $30). 
STAY AWAY FROM THE RED MOMO, WINGMAN, AND SIDEWINDER models.  They are from a time before the force feedback protocols were standardized and the FFB will not work. 
The blue Logitech Driving Force models from the playstation 2 era (some compatible with PS2 & PC) are also decent wheels which will work with profiler and have working FFB.
Logitech profiler allows you to have the wheel configuration change when any game or emulator exe is launched.
It's a big help to getting the wheel working its best with various emulators.

So look for the black logitech MOMO wheel? Can you post a pic by chance? There are so many of them, I dont want to make a mistake.

1. black MOMO (the older one you should avoid has a red main body)

2. Driving Force (PS2/PC...pretty sure it works on the PS3, but came out before the PS3)

3. Driving Force EX (PS2/PS3/PC)

EDIT:  These older wheels without a clutch pedal are actually an advantage on some games.  The clutch pedal was never added to Logitech Profiler, so can't be controlled.
The clutch pedal on the newer wheels registers as a hard code axis on some older games and emulators causing scrolling while you are in menus and making it more of a pain to try and map the other controls.

Any of the 3 are acceptable.
I've only every really used the MOMO.
I tinkered with a driving force before ripping out the PCB to use in an arcade wheel hack.
Only used it enough to make sure everything worked, but it seemed to work just as well.

I think the MOMO looks better, but I can also see someone preferring the one with a D-pad to navigate menus.

I just had a quick look on eBay (over here in the UK) and you can pick up a preowned Logitech Driving Force GT for as little £15, which means you could probably get one even cheaper than that in the US. It's PC and PS3 compatible - Just download the relevant drivers from the Logitech website and you're good to go.

Edit: PS2 as well apparently.

Had no idea they were going that cheap.  In my mind, it's still one of the "newer" wheels.

I paid 50 euros for my DFGT and for sure is a steal.
Only issue I can think of is a sort of partial compatibility with supermodel3 scud race: if you drive over the grass the FF ignite and dont stop, even when you are back on the race track. Then, if you drive over grass again the FF stops.
Not sure if it's a profiler issue (I left mine untouched) or an emulator issue.

Hmmm, that's weird, I've never had that issue myself and likewise I've never touched the profiler.

Do you have a DFGT? If not, the issue could be on the wheel model then

A friend of mine with the same setup has the same issue. Maybe some "general" option conflicts with the FFB ...
