Aliens 3: The Gun - MAME Question
« on: September 30, 2018, 12:06:24 pm »
I'm nearing the stages of completion for converting a dead Aliens 3: The gun cabinet into a MAME version of it instead, this is because the game board is FUBAR but everything else is original.

So I have both the guns pots hooked up to a A-Trak along with the trigger and bomb button. That all works and responses but the problem I'm having must be in MAME itself.

The problem is the centering, I have disabled auto center value to 0 but when moving from left to right or up to down its not smooth in the middle. So for example it moves smoothly from the left but the moment it hits the middle it is kind of like a dead zone and you have push a bit futher to get it out of the dead zone to make it move.

Here is a super detailed diagram:

Left Side -| X------> X Sticks, Sticks, Sticks X ------> X| - Right Side

Is it worn out Pots?, Is it calibration in USB Controller settings for Windows or is it something in MAME or the USB encoder? We just want it smooth 1:1 movement so you can shoot in the centre easily without it locking in place.

Any ideas at all guys?

Many Thanks

No idea but is it anything to do with the Acceleration etc settings in the analogue menu?

I tried playing with the analogue settings and I didn't know if I was making it better or worse lol. I have tried reducing the auto center to 0 also increased the sensitivities, finally lowered the digital speed.

I was hoping there is a auto center over ride so it scrolls effortless :(

there's a dead zone setting in the game options dialog. I converted a twin gun operation wolf cabinet and had this issue. Reduce the deadzone to 0 and that will fix the issue  ;)
