Oil stain/spots under plexi/polycarbon plate
« on: September 20, 2018, 05:13:25 pm »
This is not really a woodworking topic in the true sense of the word but I think it's the right section to put my question ;). I've also searched the forums for a post about a similar issue but haven't found one. I hope I haven't searched correctly and that I'm not the only one with this issue (and that there's a solution). ;)

I've had this strange problem where I have these stains in between the polycarbon plate I've used for my control panel and the vinyl control panel art. The thing is that the stains aren't in the polycarbon plate or on the art, not even when you just put the plate on the art, but they are visible when you press down on the plate. And it's pressed down of course because the buttons are screwed on and they pull it tight. If I loosen the buttons, the spots dissapear. Also the stains are more pronounced when the light of my led buttons is on. Then they pop out like they're fluorescent. Really annoying as I've put a lot of work in getting the art right and now my control panel looks like it has the plague.

It's not even that rare of an issue I suppose because I also have a Madcatz Fighting stick that came straight from the box with "oil stains" between the plexi and the art which move when you press down on the plexi. There it never really bothered me because my buttons aren't lit, but on my cab it looks fugly.

Does anyone know how I can fix it? I hope there's an easy fix to it ;).

Lightly spray a clear matte finish over your artwork. That’s one way to get rid of it.

Thanks! I'll look into that!
