Progress on my vertical 40" LCD standup cab
« on: November 10, 2020, 11:00:48 pm »
Getting through it.

https://imgur.com/gallery/DzYKbjI

The drawer is not (only) a keyboard drawer!  This cab will be run from a laptop that was kindly donated to me by a friend who works for a PC repair shop, from a customer who broke the screen and didn't want to pay to replace it.  The laptop is an i7 with 8GB ram and some kind of mobile Nvidia card.  Runs everything very well.  The laptop will go in the drawer.

The two holes in the front face of the drawer are for USB extensions (you can see one there on the left), those will be used for plugging in the Sinden Lightguns when they arrive in January.

I have made custom .lay files for my MAME bezel that will allow me to run the screen directly above the control panel, and a marquee for each game along the top of the display.  The portion of the screen that is hidden behind the control panel box will be unused.

This will be painted black with purple T-molding.  I have designed my own side art and CP art that I'm getting printed now.  I have plexi to go over the CP and am a little nervous about cutting and drilling it.  I've done it before, but that doesn't make me any less nervous.

I still need to cut a bezel to fill the gap around the display, that will probably happen tomorrow.  I also need to get some leveling feet.

Looking good so far, good luck with the plexi.  I usually go with metal control panels with the artwork directly applied to it.  It's just easier to mount all the controls and has a lovely texture to it.  But looking forward to seeing how it ends up.

interesting design.
have you got any drawings/sketches/3d model for this project to show us what you are aiming for?
will the plexi be opaque?

Looking good so far!  I'm leaning real hard toward making my next cab a vertical build so I'm excited to see someone else tackle one.  Are you going with a frontend or just running straight from the MAME UI?

I'll Be using big box. I already have a custom theme made to fit my screen limitations.

I have a full size 3D model made out of wood, pictured in the original post.  :P

The plexi will be clear, with printed graphic underneath.

This cab was sort-of inspired by a couple different ones I saw that look like this:

huge vertical monitor! Solid dedication to the 80"s :notworthy:
They treated me like an animal and that's what I became.

Probably got to the playable stage and stopped working on it,  seems to be a recurring theme here.

Yeah!  I dont post alot but been on the site for 5 years...seen lots of those builds. Left my old cabs in my last house as part of the sale.  My new house will be finished in Jan and my 1st new build will be a vertical one.  I'll ne sure to track it all the way through for you guys!  Lol!
