When does Twilight Princess get good?
« on: September 13, 2018, 09:31:00 am »
I'm a huge Zelda fan. Out dated graphics don't bother me. Neither does the fact everyone is cross eyed. Link being right handed bothers me a little, but Im more used to it because of BotW.

I'm playing the WiiU Twilight Princess HD re-release on CEMU with an XBOX1 controller.  I've gone through the initial forest/village bit including rounding up sheep TWICE for some reason. I've became a wolf and met princess Zelda at the top of the tower. I'm an hour in and I feel like I'm still stuck in a tutorial. Rescuing the kid from the monkey was too easy despite the poor "lock on" but at least it had a little combat and exploring.  I don't like the wolf mechanic for jumping gaps or even combat so far and its been a total snooze fest. The prison was probably the most boring and obvious puzzle ever featured in a AAA title.

Does the action pick up soon and if so, is it worth it? So far this game has done nothing but dissapoint me, even the story is meh.

The only reason I obtained ZTP back in the day for the original Wii was to execute the crack to pirate Wii stuff lol...

Maybe that's why I own it.... Anyway, my experience was the same as Malenko's.

I much preferred the GameCube version.  Several of the special moves were easier to execute with a real controller vs the waggle sticks.

Real controller on wiiU HD version,  no waggle controls. I'd rather not set up another emulator with lesser visuals just to make Link left handed especially if it means replaying the first hour of the game all over again.

I've read endless rave reviews for this game , so maybe it's just been over hyped for me?

It's a good game, but maybe you were expecting it to be more Zelda-like.  Ignore side quests as they are worthless in this one and plow through.  It does eventually pick up.  Then again if you don't like the game mechanics then you should probably stop playing.

instead of making a jump, you have to hit L to get the masked spirit thing to appear on the other side then hit A. Its either bad design or just part of the tutorial that I havent gotten past yet (met Zelda, saved, exited the game)

The targeting is really bad, watched a youtube vid, and its not the emulation :(
And yeah when I play a Zelda game I expect it to be.....Zelda-y  :dunno

I did jump back into BotW and I got the enhanced mipha and enhanced vivaldi , I even made the trek out to the island where you get stripped of gear and have to kill a hinex.

Ahhh, the Island,  a nice amuse-bouche to the trial, I kept going back to the island for some reason, maybe I was just a glutton for punishment :)

I didn't have a problem with it.

Entered the island on the shore to the right and ran into a pack of weak enemies, a few bombs later I had 10 arrows, a crummy wooden bow, a few tree branches,  a weak sword, and a metal shield. Just took my time and made good use of the plethora of mighty bananas in the middle of the island and fish along the shoreline.  Just going around and picking off the weak enemies and cooking lots of food definitely made the island easier this time around. By the time I took out the hinox I was pretty well geared up.

I still need to mate my phone up with CEMU so I can do the gyroscope shrines, and I still need to unlock the blood moon shrine in the north east section of the map. I have a few more pieces of gear to max out the upgrade on, which reminds me...........   The Warrior gear requires Lynel parts.... which is what you need the warrior gear to kill.

Im gonna give TP another go in a few days, I hope it picks up

Keep playing.  Twilight Princess has some of the best dungeon design in the entire series.  The intro/tutorial is a total slog though.  Overall the game is fantastic, IMO.

Its honestly amazing how well it works.  If you got the hardware you can even run games at 4K.
