Supermodel 3 with Mamewah
« on: September 11, 2018, 05:38:51 pm »
Hey folks,

Does anyone know if Supermodel 3 will run in Mamewah? Even more of an ambitious request, does anyone know where I could find some info about setting it up, if it is possible? I can't find anything to confirm whether it is, let alone where to start. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Or does anybody know anyone on the supermodel forum? I tried joining to ask for help but they don't appear to be accepting many new members due to recent flurry of spambot activity...

I haven't used Mamewah.  Supermodel 3 is a command line emulator which means any front end that can post the proper command line can launch it.

Not sure how it applies to Mamewah, but the pertinent information for Mala is:
executable:       Supermodel.exe
rom extensions: zip
command line:   "%path%\%rom%.%ext%" - fullscreen

EDIT: other command line options for resolution and such can be added per the Supermodel 3 instructions

Thanks for helping, I really appreciate it! Ok, I'm a massive novice on this and have only pointed to exe files before and now realise Supermodel has to be a command line promt. So do I not include the exe file in my emulator command line?

It should be included in the command line Mamewah posts.
Supermodel. exe "%path%\%rom%.%ext%" - fullscreen

Again, I don't know how Mamewah works.

Ahh ok. I thought it might be different because the exe file doesn't work by itself unless you have a loader. My command line for mame for exampe is C:\mame\mame.exe [name]{nodosbox}{nosafelaunch}

The exe doesn't do anything unless you specify a room to launch.
Read up on launching games manually via command line(from the windows command prompt) for both mame and supermodel.
Do that and you'll gain a new understanding of exactly how all these front-ends work.  It will pay dividends when you want to add oddball things in the future.

Badmouth I really appreciate you taking the time to help me with this.

I've had a read around and fear I'm more confused than ever! I understand that the exe won't work by itself as it's just a shortcut. I also realise I have to create a supermodel.ini and put my instructions in there.

I can run supermodel using command line outside of mamewah as per the instructions on the supermodel website - so going to cmd, then changing directory to Supermodel with cd\ Supermodel. Once the program is running I then specify a rom (zip file shortcut) to run it (as well as additional parameters like screen size. However how do I translate those instructions into my mamewah supermodel.ini file? I don't see how "C:\mame\mame.exe [name]{nodosbox}{nosafelaunch}" or "Supermodel. exe "%path%\%rom%.%ext%" - fullscreen" relates to what I have done in cmd. Am I reading the wrong material? I have a feeling I'm being really stupid but part of my incompetence is due to failing to understand what each command does and how to shortcut it, if I had a greater understanding of how the process works perhaps I'm hoping I'd be a bit more capable!

%path%\%rom%.%ext% is the nomenclature for the Mala front-end.  They are placeholders.

It looks like Mamewah uses different terms which you would have to substitute.
The goal is to get Mamewah to post the proper command line for Supermodel.
example: supermodel scud.zip -fullscreen

So would I have to specify the Rom I want to play? Because the preference would be to choose within the front end itself but maybe that's not possible  with this emulator

no, you'd substitute whatever placeholder Mamewah uses for the rom name.
I think I've helped you as much as I can without learning Mamewah myself.

Thanks Batmouth, I managed to get it to work! Which is great, sadly I didn't realise that the latest versions of Supermodel are not 32 bit and won't work on my xp set up. Only the original 2011 release will, and I'm havin to many issues with that release. Dammit!

Does anyone one know where I can get the most recent 32 bit compatible supermodel 3 exe? Not the last official one from from 2011, but a more recent 32 bit one that deals with a lot of the issues with the 2011 version. The ones on the official forum all appear to be 64 bit. Any help will be rewarded with digital pancakes and ice cream
