Noob needing help with aimtrack guns
« on: September 05, 2018, 10:27:46 pm »
Hi! I just got this machine custom made and ordered 2 guns from aimtrak. I installed the software and tried to calibrate but it just will not calibrate. I've stood further away and played with the angle of the sensor bar. Has the guy who made the machine possibly tilted the screen too far back and it's messing with the sensor picking up signal?
I've closed blinds and darkened the room to no avail.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Where is the sensor mounted?

Where is the sensor mounted?

That would be my first question also, and is it mounted flat with the sticky pads facing down. I have come across the bar being stuck upside down onto the underside of the marquee housing in that cabinet style and that wont work.

The angled screen might cause issues with reflections from any IR light source but should be OK with LED lighting, not halogen though. From the playability issue regardless of the guns thats a pretty steep angle though.

I've been experimenting with putting it in all different positions. Bottom of the screen got nothing, top of the cabinet was no good. At the top of the screen being held with blue tack was the only way that anything got recognised.
I just think with that tilt they're doomed.
I'm honestly considering getting a secondhand ps2 and putting them on that in another cabinet I have. They work on a ps2 don't they Andy?
I've got an old PS3 in the kids room, would that work? Hang on... there aren't really any PS3 games they'll work on are there?

Ok the sensor bar needs to be mounted ontop of the screen, The correct way up and central.
The guns have a slightly uphill beam on them so bellow will never work.

Also close all your blinds and turn off any lights.
In your conservatory will always be a problem due to the reflective surfaces of the glass and by the looks possibly your blinds but try it at night with the blinds closed that should give you the best chance.

The screen angle does look extreme but I have not tried them with a angle like that so I dunno.

As for the PS3 the only lightgun games for that use the move as far as I know.

Ok I've gotten further. Both guns working in the aimtrak software - both recognized and tracking well. Both configured properly in MAME by hitting tab while in Area 51 EX and assigning buttons and the X and Y axis  as per Andies instructions.
However going in the MAME gun 2 is working but gun 1 only works intermittently.

What do I try next?

Also - games that use the pedal in the arcades.. How can i change those to work with the aimtrak guns?

Reload is also per Andies instructions but not working in all games. Have I done something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Do your guns stop working after restarting windows? If so that is windows changing your device id’s which changes the assignments in mame.

For instance gun 1 can become gun 5.

The only way to resolve that is by fixing the ID’s.

The pedal switch just needs to be mapped to one of your AT buttons via the tab menu.

Reloading probs you will need to be a little more specific.

There's a download around somewhere to get around the device ids swapping??
I'll have another play around with it today.
I switched everything off yesterday and went back to it lastnight and boths guns were working. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
