How many coin slots/inputs for 2 player cabinet?
« on: September 05, 2018, 09:29:04 pm »
As the title says, do I need 2 coin inputs for a 2 player cabinet?
I know there are some 4 player cabinets that have a dedicated coin slot for each player but what about 2 player cabinets?
Do any 2 player cabinets have a designated coin slot for each player?

Haven't been able to find a definitive answer, thank you.

I don't know if this is a definitive answer...
however - mine is a 2 player 2 coin slot cabinet..

I've found 2 player games that only use coin slot 1..  but I have not come across any that player 2 requires coin slot 2..
Just my experience so far..

Typically a game menu or dipswitch setting. Like Strikers 1945, you can set the coin slots to be independent or not. I'd imagine this feature is available on most "insert coin to continue" games.

Both :p

It depends how they are setup.

Some cabs/games are set up to have independent coin assignment and some are set up to share.

So up to you really.

Both of my 2 player cabs share 1 coin counter.

Most MAME two player games have the option (dip switches or setup menu) to use "common" coin slots, i.e. one coin slot gives credits for both players.
I've set up my two player cab with only one coin button, because out of the 1600 or so arcade games on my cab, maybe a handful didn't have the "common" option. And for those, you can always set up the same key for both coins. This way, if you press 5 (or whatever key you set), both players will get a credit. It's not elegant, but it works, and for me those few games didn't justify drilling another hole and wiring up another button.

You want 2 slots. Plenty of games require separate slots, and any 3 or 4 player games that you play in the cabinet will expect separate slots.
