JukeboxFX to be released tonight
« on: May 27, 2002, 11:48:50 am »
JukeboxFX will be released tonight. I finally found a little time this weekend to get the first beta ready.  More details are on the AFX home page.

Here is a screenshot for you.  And yes the speakers pump in real time to the beat!  Two other cool visuals are available as well.

I wont have a chance to play with it for a bit (just bought a pool table... and used all my hobby time getting it setup...).  But I have a few questions.

Is it skinnable?

Are the keys 100% configurable?

I'm looking for a mp3 player that can looks as close to a old jukebox as possible.  And that can exit with one key.  Then I can get it working with my frontend :)

Looking GREAT!

Only the background is skinnable right now and it is not key mappable yet. You will need a trackball or mouse for navigation for now.  Right now it will exit with the ESC key or clicking the exit button.

Hope to add the key mapping in the next release.

Hey guys,

I think the ultimate jukebox would do the following two key things:

1) It would allow full command line integration for use in a frontend, in fact, it'd be REALLY cool if you could use a frontend to build a playlist and then send it to it like so:

mp3juke.exe <song1> <song2> <song3>

2) It could act as a screensaver.  So, for example, my arcade cabinet would sit idle for 10 minutes, then the jukebox would automatically kick off and play the playlist I sent it, or even better, select RANDOM songs from paths that I supply the screensaver module.  I'd love for my cabinet to play the Pac Man Fever MP3 when the screensaver is activated.

All these standalone jukeboxes are really cool, but the thought of being able to integrate them into my existing frontend or have them automatically come up as a screensaver is what I'd really like to do.

1.) Command line support.

Command line support?  That's just silly.... windoze media player and winamp already support command line support already. Try it. ;)

2.)Screensaver.

Once again there are plenty of windows screensavers that already do this and are much more suited for a screensaver as they have fullscreen visualizations.  I'm not saying that a screensaver that reads the playlist is a bad idea, this is just a totally different animal.

3.) Integration....  Yeah we'll both do that.  Personally I'll allow you to point to an exe rather than merging it to the code, that way you can use jukeboxfx, arcade jukebox, ect.  As long as the authors code it to where the resolutions aren't locked down (Hint, Hint)  it'll be easy to support all.

Howard,

Yeah, but having all those features in ONE program and not scattered about 5 different MP3 players would be nice.  I'd love to see Arcade Jukebox activate as a screen saver, with optional visualizations, with a playlist that it would select randomly from.  It could be run as standalone, act as a screensaver, OR take commands from a frontend.  And have full screen visualizations or just the jukebox look.

Design an MP3 player that can do all that and you'll have the ultimate set.  Otherwise all those features are just scattered across like 5 different players.

Oh I understand what you mean. But I'm making a jukebox, not a screensaver or a command-line based mp3 player.  Now all of those things you mentioned (with the exception of commandline support fo rthe jukebox)  would be good to put in a front-end, but not the jukebox itself.  Mine will have some sort of rudimentary screen-saving device though, just to prevent burn-in.

It's on the way... I sent the first beta to oscar last night.  Should see some news of it pretty soon.
