Sync issues on Nanao MS9-29 + JPAC
« on: August 07, 2018, 03:02:42 pm »
Hi there.  I'm having difficulty getting the 'Nanao MS9-29' specific settings working wth a JPAC.   When using the 'Nanao MS9-29' setting; the JPAC does not display a sync light or picture.  I'm able to use the 'Arcade 15.7 kHz - standard resolution' monitor type just fine.

AMD A10-7860K with Radeon R7

I'm using standard user_modes.ini, as I don't know how super resolutions work.

I've tried using composite sync (and updating the monitor polarities and regenerating/installing modes, and that gives me a sync light (yellow) but no picture.

Desktop resolution set to 640x480 60i.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious.  Could anyone point me in the right direction?

You are supplying the JPac with power? (been there done that once before)
Have you discovered whether you've got an auto switching Nanao or not? (15/25)
if not edit out the 25kHz line.
Set the JPAC to 15kHz?
post up your ini files too..

Are you able to manually change to a low resolution at all, and have it display on the screen?

You should be using the latest version of GroovyMAME along with CRT Emudriver & CRT Tools 2.0 beta 13 (Crimson 16.2.1 for GCN* cards) for Windows 7/8/10 64-bits...

...and you should follow the guide here and install super resolutions...

Just use te arcade_15 preset. The ms929 preset was created to make use of the 24 kHz range, but this only works for the autoswitch model.

However, in this case it's the JPAC the one that doesn't like the signal, probably 24 kHz. To properly diagnose this you should be able to tell which frequency is being sent to the JPAC at each moment, by looking at the video mode that's being used. Once you know that, you could adjust the range until both the JPAC and the monitor are happy. But anyway, I wouldn't bother, unless you are sure you have the autoswitch chassis.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.
