Anyone seen an MP3/PC based jukebox machine?
« on: May 26, 2002, 11:43:22 am »
I figured no gameroom is complete without a fullsize jukebox in on of the corners. But why settle for a few hundred songs when you could have an endless selection. This is my goal. I have only seen one other (sells for $2000!). Getting the cabinet is the easy part and I have an old PC I could use for the brain and storage. I'm trying to figure out a good interface for song selection and controls. Something nice looking but very functional.  Any  ideas or links are greatly appreciated.

I looked all through that site but it seems so only be an organizational software package for your LP/CD collection. I may have missed what you were pointing out. I am looking to take a jukebox cabinet, put a PC inside that stores tons of MP3s and then be able to, through some form of interface, be able to browse, select and play the songs. Allthewhile keeping , pretty much, the overall look of the jukebox itself.

I figured you could get some interface ideas from their screenshots.

Check out my little program...DJ

It has an interface very similar to a traditional jukebox and allows you to select songs via call numbers.  It's a wip but since I'll be building a jukebox soon I guarantee you it will evenutally be just what your looking for.

I've had the same idea for about a year now, but it seems just about impossible to find an empty or non-working jukebox to hack.  People just don't throw them out the way they do arcade cabs.  No, they actually RESTORE jueboxes!!  Damned expensive too, new OR used!  The only thing I can think of is to get one of the Wurlitzer CD players off ebay that looks like a 1/3 size jukebox and hack it--looks like just enough room for a motherboard and an LCD panel.  Either that or design one from scratch.  Hmmm...  ;)

Anyone for starting a "build your own jukebox" FAQ?  ;D
