Any guitar or especially bass players out there? |

Mike A:
I am building a simple bass speaker cabinet for my son. I have never done this before so I would like to ask a few questions. Can I make this out of 3/4 birch plywood? I have a bunch of that laying around. Or do I need MDF? I see most builds seem to use that. This is the speaker I ordered: http://www.eminence.com/speakers/speaker-detail/?model=Legend_BP122 I have the specs for the speaker that detail the cabinet dimensions. Unless someone has a compelling argument I am going to make this a sealed cab. The specs say the speaker can be sealed or ported. |

Mike - eds1275 plays guitar if Im not mistaken. He hasnt been on in 9 days but I think he should respond to an IM. Googling MDF vs Birch should get you the answers you need on material. This link is a good read for sealed vs ported. Plus I thought you learned your lesson from this morning. Never give people options on this site. A fight might break out. |
Mike A:
Ported vs sealed is not nearly as critical as pancakes vs waffles. I read some stuff online, but I wanted the opinion of a musician on this forum. Thanks for the info. I will give eds1275 a try. |

I play, but never built a speaker cab. MDF is the norm, but I would suggest doing a small single speaker cab with the birch and test the sound. |
