CRT frontend advice needed
« on: June 07, 2018, 03:45:57 pm »
I have an arcadeVGA 5000 plugged into a jpac running on a k7000 and I am looking for a frontend theme that is similar to maximus arcade, but has readable text when running in 320x240 res. I've looked into mala and attract mode, but can seem to find a good theme. What frontend and theme(or layout) do people have good success with? Thanks for the help.
Cabs: Tron, MKII, MK4, KI2, Blitz99, TMNT, Pac-Mania, Defender, Mame Box.
PCBs: MK1, UMK3, Killer Instinct, Area51, Sunset Riders, Pit Fighter, Wargods.
Pins: Bride of PinBot, Attack from Mars, The Shadow

I had the same issue, I tried Mgalaxy but It was hard to read the games on some of those skins. They have since made a few updates, might be worth your time to check it out. I ended up using Hyperspin. Another one to look at is Launchbox.

I purchased bigbox, but havent tried it yet. I couldn't seem to find a theme that was designed for 320x240

GameEX has a low resolution mode you can choose in it's setup wizard. There's a default - Hybrid Blue that shows the games in list forum and it looks good on my Sony Trinitron KV-27FS100

Mala has a low res theme that I use for my CRT. I can't remember what it is called. When I get home I will look it up. I will also snap some pics. It shows the name, marquee, short gameplay video, and the control panel.

I think I'm going to ultimately go with launchbox. I found a theme that isn't too terrible. Thanks for the help

Attractmode. There is a Maximus clone theme. I’ve also written two themes. I tested and run my themes at 480i. I assume you are using 480i and not 240p. My flavors theme has been verified at 240p using raspberry pi. Oomek has a few excellent themes that should work at lower resolutions.

If your a Capcom fan, check out big blue frontend.

here is my mala frontend, made most of the backgrounds myself. The resolution is 800by600 though.
