N00bs Guide to LEDBlinky
« on: June 03, 2018, 04:45:07 am »
I imagine this might exist somewhere, but sure am failing to find it...

I have LED buttons on my CP and my goal is to get the relevant buttons lighting up for each game in MAME

Is there an easy (ish) way to do this without going through every game independently??

That would be great!
What MAME version is it?

Not sure that mame version matters? PM me your email address and I'll send it and a controls.ini file for you to try out.

Pm sent

I only wondered about MAME version as ROM names change occasionally depending on version...

Just did this on my first machine.  I found the readily available colors.ini worked for about 80% of the games I've got on my machine - the rest I'm going game by game on to tweak.  It's exhausting but it will be worth it in the end (note: my cab doesn't host thousands of MAME games... would not be do-able if I had more than 40 or so to tweak).

The trouble is, many of those that I'm finding not in colors.ini are because they were generally franken-cabinets or a pic of their CP is non-existent on the Internets (i.e. Martial Masters).  I'm just getting creative once I hit a dead-end :)

You can't truly know how something works until you've ruined it by taking it apart.

Nice - when you say 'readily available' - is that different to the ones shared above?

The ones I shared were modified versions of the readily available ones. Fixed colors in some games, and if I remember right, I had to fix all the NeoGeo games.

If anyone wishes to provide an updated version of the colors.ini file, I'm more than happy to include it with the LEDBlinky distribution.

So I've tried the colours.ini and it worked. Briefly.
Somewhere in my setting up I've broken it.

Tried to MAME test and I get the start and exit events.
Rocket launcher has correct paths and the led blinky UI has the right paths for mame and the colours etc

If I try load the troubleshooter and follow the instructions I get no change in the message

Input maps are set correctly
If I try load the controls editor however I get an error saying I need to set the input map, but loading still has everything set and I've tried changing and resaving just to kick it in.

Any idea what's going on??

So, interestingly, contrary to most things I've read on the web I can only get this to work if I a) enable HyperHQ to use LEDBlinky and b) launch the game via Hyperspin.

I'm using Rocket Launcher, which also has the LED Blinky path setup and told to use it, but launching direct via RocketLauncher does not seem to do anything

One aditional issue I am having however is that despite the relevant values set in Colors.ini, my coin/P1/p2 buttons do not light...

My pause button lights per the default set in the controls setup, but I can't find the relevant button there to light my exit button either...

EDIT: Just to confirm, I'm pretty certain that nothing from RocketLauncher is actually being used - for example I have a second duplicate of a mame system in Hyperspin and RL, I have told RL to system name as MAME but it doesnt - looking at the unknown games list it's getting the original system name

So I still need some help...

I have mostly got things working. HS and RL on the whole don't play nicely together, seems I can use either one or the other (RL only seems to work if I load LED Blinky at start, not sure how to get Hyperspin specific lighting that way tho at startup - only goes that way once I've loaded and exited a game)

But the issue I really want help with is thus..
I have default LEDs set for MAME and every LED works as expected EXCEPT the exit button.

This is set as common -> UI_CANCEL (which is the same as my global RL exit button), but doesn't light...

I can't seem to find a generic EXIT option in the controls editor.

Anyone able to help me get this lit?

NB. Works fine in all tests and animation, there is no issue with the leds
