You can pick up these cheap dreamgear mini arcades from Walmart.   it comes with a 3-3.5 LCD screen.

Before I even begin on this journey :)  I need to figure if there is any way I can drive the existing LCD Screen with a Pi Zero or Pi 3.  Where do I even begin? All google searches point to buying an official LCD Pi Screen. 

Some questions.

Can I somehow tap into the DSI Display port? or GPIO Port..?

If I do use the GPIO board for the LCD Display, does that mean I wont have a way to use the existing joystick and buttons?
