One more (small) step closer to finalizing the artwork.  A background was added to the marquee so I can decide on final colors for the logo.  The background was just cut and pasted from the side art and will not be the final design.

I think I like the first one best actually.  It is the one that stands out the most to me and pops off of the background.

We also put together a few different mock-ups for the laser beam shooting out of the ray gun and I'm not sure any of them look quite right but surprisingly the yellow is the closest.

What I'm thinking now is to match the laser to the color of the logo so it would be yellow/orange.  This would tie the two pieces together because even though the yellow/orange logo looks the best, those colors don't yet tie into the side art.  I guess could scrap the laser altogether but leaving the area by the CP barren doesn't look right to me either.  I like the laser - I just don't think we have found the right color yet but I think we are close.

Thoughts?

I agree with the Marquee color choice upper left.  I also like the yellow laser, but in all of he laser shots the glow of the laser color on the robot seems too much to me.  If your going to have it, seems like it might be better to dial down the glow....

I like the top-left or top-right for the marquee.  Leaning towards top-left though.  Those are the colours that will be backlit nicer than the rest.

As for the laser, I wouldn't match the colour of the laser with the marquee at all. I'd actually do a completely different colour, something that stands out and is a departure from the character and background. Something like the green from the mid-left marquee, or do a blue/cyan plasma looking scheme. But the key is to have the laser stand-out rather than be matchy-matchy with the rest of the image or marquee art.

The philosophy is: Lasers should look like energy. Something intangible, that isn't tied to physical elements of your images.

See. That is the artsy fartsy stuff I am talking about.

Artists know when to match everything up and when not to.
