Golden Axe - key and button assignment
« on: May 28, 2018, 04:56:25 am »
Hi all,

Just joined the forum after spending hours trying to find the answer to what might be a simple issue.

I recently bought a machine which was a new build.
There is a PC in it running hyperspin.
The seller gave me a brief overview of how it works and I have since read loads of guides about building machines and the software available. I had no idea any of this existed and having bought the machine being built by someone else have had to unpick how all this stuff works.

I'm trying to play Golden Axe on MAME. There are three controls attack, jump, magic.
There is no button assigned to magic.

I asked the seller who told me to use the tab key on the keyboard to bring up a menu and assign a key to the button.

I can do that but how do I know what key to assign?

Probably a stupidly easy question but I'm stumped.

Mods - Feel free to delete this if its in the wrong section or against the rules (I did read them) .

Thanks all

It's under 'configure inputs (this game).  MAME is smart enough to know which buttons a game uses, so it will be a matter of trial/error in setting P1 buttons, similar to below...

You'll need to play around to see which button is which, but you'll get it.
You can't truly know how something works until you've ruined it by taking it apart.

Welcome aboard, Johnnerspub.   ;D

I'm trying to play Golden Axe on MAME. There are three controls attack, jump, magic.
There is no button assigned to magic.

I asked the seller who told me to use the tab key on the keyboard to bring up a menu and assign a key to the button.
In Golden Axe, Player 1 "magic" is assigned to P1 Button 3.

Press Tab to bring up the MAME menu system. (use arrows to move and Enter to select)

In the "Inputs (this Game)" menu, highlight "P1 Button 3"
- Press Enter (to assign a key to this function)
- Press Player 1 Button 3 on your control panel (the keystroke/gamepad button for P1B3 appears in the right column)
- Press Tab to exit the menu system
- Play a game to make sure it works right.   ;D

If you make a mistake and want to change P1B3 back to the MAME default setting, go back to the "Inputs (this Game)" menu, highlight "P1 Button 3"
- Press Enter
- Press ESC (changes current setting to "none")
- Press Enter
- Press ESC (changes "none" to MAME default)
