A zip tie gun is only for expedience if you have to zip tie a million times a day.

Cancel the order and save yourself some money.

I can't see blowing 25 bucks on a tool that will see very limited use. Unless that tool is necessary to accomplish the task at hand. A T molding slot cutter for example.

I have to admit that I have 2 zip tie guns... (I didn't buy either of them)
In my past I used to build radio station studios and do network wiring. The guns definitely were useful as getting the tension right was important.  Especially useful when doing wiring under desks and in other tight places. Nowadays they make wiring inside cabinets easier.

The red one is a no-name, unlabeled unit and the gray one is a Panduit GS2B.  Both work nicely but the Panduit feels better, works smoother and is my go-to gun if I am using a lot of ties. I would not buy the Panduit new but with eBay prices for used ones as low as $25 it's not a steep investment especially if you like tools.  These can make wiring go faster once you develop a system and I like that they retain the end of the tie and it doesn't go flying when cut.  Definitely useful but certainly not a necessity.

I've had the Panduit gun for about 30 years. Haven't had to replace a blade. Never thought about selling either one but I have hoarding issues. eBay cheapies are $12 shipped from China. Someone should review one.  For those who have to have the best you can go for one of the pneumatic ones for about $1000

The "tensioning" of zip ties seems ridiculous to me. Zip ties are stepped... It's tightened up to each step, no in between "tensioning"...

On a side note... Anybody want to buy some wire tie twisters for your bread loafs?

I think what your missing is a wire is rarely strait, its got the shape of the spool it came off, well put multiple together and suddenly your pulling on a mess at least until the tie realizes where it is supposed to be.

Get the fuq outta here...

Sure it looks good, but are all of those ties correctly tensioned? If even one of those is incorrectly tensioned you could be in for catastrophic failure in 1 to 2 thousand years.

Think of a cable tie as a belt with holes it's stepped but can be over tightened so your guts are all squished up and uncomfortable.

Tension is not a huge deal on arcade stuff but if you ever had to track down a fault on premise wiring because some ape decided to crank down on a wire tie and destroyed a wire you begin to appreciate proper bundling of cables.  Connectivity and speed issues on networks, frequency response problems on audio stuff, doesn't happen often, but when it does, it sucks.   I guess it's a big enough issue that velcro ties are now the recommended thing to use in many industries.

Bottom line - you don't need a zip tie gun. But some of us like toys (all of us like games) and tools. I think people might laugh as us debating a $12 tool when they see all the other stuff we drop big bucks on.  I just bought one of these to try - an open source CNC router! Do I need it? Hell no, but it's cool.

I'll post a review on it when I get it up and running.

I didn't do it, I didn't even see it happen. I heard about it and saw paintball dots all over the intersection (road and signage). So the story checked out for me based on the fact I haven't seen that bum since. Guy may have just shaved and cut off his white people dreads and is begging elsewhere, who knows.

That being said, I'd pop a pan handler with a paintball gun. I don't deny that.

My $25 zip tie gun review..

It took me 3 zip ties to get the hang of it..

The tail of the tie gets slid sideways a tiny bit by the way the slot is designed.  But I think you have to keep you finger there anyway to hold it in place.
Once you do that - it creates a nice clean flush cut.

I'm going to ziptie the crap out of my cabinet once I'm 100% done.. maybe..  :)

**UPDATE** The zipper gun is fun!, I find Jenn gets a bit carried away and uses too many ties however, and has to hold back as to not be wasteful/ impractical (recommended for tool nerds)..... But today its crimpers I am thinking, I have had many over the years and some are expensive, some are cheap, and most just suck in terms of quality, My new crimping  test victim http://www.engineer.jp/en/products/pa09e.html   again affordable to all, but it pros/cons according to reviews being it only does 1 crimp at a time, which makes me think it potentially stresses the pin bending it twice, and it doesn't ratchet, or made in the US obviously, My attraction being it is considerably thinner in design than the removable quick change jaw types (Not a fan) and could be considered more user friendly in manipulating a crimp pin. .... Anyway its in the mail and we will check this out.

I have those for small pins. Love it. I used it to make around 100 some harnesses for 7" LCDs for KLOV members back in the day. Haven't used it since though.

These are my go-to crimpers: https://www.amazon.com/Tool-Aid-18930-Ratcheting-Weatherpack/dp/B000K1CFXO
I have different die sets to suit my crimping needs.

Not sure you will like the stamped metal crimper - the little pins are difficult to crimp once - never mind twice.

I used this one for my well over 100 pins for Dupont connectors.

It has a small side and fat side to accommodate the pin and the insulator on the wire.
Overall its pretty good - I've seem many that are nearly identical to this.

Here are the crimps:

There is a very slight difference between the two.
The red one I crimped once.
The green one I crimped as usual - then I opened the crimper - pushed the wire in another 1/16" and gave it a 1/2 crimp to compress the insulator better.

What was happening is that the connector would go most of the way in and get stuck at the bulge where the pin grips the wire..
The extra little crimp compressed the insulator and bulge enough to make it go into the Dupont connector easily..
I figured this out after fighting to get wires in for a 30-40 wires.

If I were designing my own - I'd make the wire insulator side of the jaw twice as wide so I could do this in one crimp..
Maybe I should patent that  ;)
