ALL NEW BYOAC High Score Competition! Games played so far:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,156317.0.html

-------------------------------
Game Name : Rally X
ROM Name  = rallyx
-------------------------------

Settings:
   Bonus Life - 20000, Lives 3, Difficulty - 3 Cars/Easy

Controls:
    4-way Joystick, 1 Button (smoke)

Horizontal Standard.

You control a small car running around in a maze. There are of course the obvious "bad guys", namely other cars that try to force an accident with you. While you try to dodge the other cars (and there's more of them in each level!) you have to collect the ten yellow flags to get more points. There's also a timer and a fuel gauge to take into account.

So it's Rally-X.  You know this one.  After the button-mash fest of last time, I wanted something a little different, let's bring it back to a classic.

Collect flags, stun enemy cars. If you collect the flag marked with an S, flag values double for the rest of the round, capping the level scores at 11k.  Each 3rd is a bonus stage.

Current scores:
1. j.fitzenr - 82,110
2. yamatetsu - 66,490
3. shaolindrunkard - 45,650
4. wp34 - 31,580
5. acvieluf - 24,630

Last day: Sunday, June 3rd 2018, midnight Pacific Time

I'll get the ball rolling.  31,580

I love the artwork on this one---especially the marquee.  It reminds me of Turbo Time from Wreck it Ralph.

Round 9? Get outta here, you freak.

Something about blind squirrels?

Naw honestly I'm kinda frustrated, I got my 80k within the first like, hour or two of playing this week and my high since then is like 65k.  These cars need to go faster!

I'm in the same boat, just with a smaller number.  I got 24k-ish on my FIRST GAME, and haven't been able to get close since.   :banghead:

BTW my only 'strategies' are

a)you can pass through the cars for the first like, second or two of the level before they move.  Almost worthless, but can be kinda nice in challen-- charanging stages.

b)uh, that's about all I've figured out.  I was hoping for some sort of trick that would help me sort of 'herd' the other cars but they really don't like to cooperate.  Leading them into boulders/each other is fun but tricky.  You CAN tell which cars are still gassed or recovering from a collision if they're not moving on the mini-map, that can be kinda helpful.

51,810. Came very close to smashing my fonking gamepad when the last car didn't want to go where it should and got hit. I hate 4-way games.

Yeah I usually use my XBOX One pad, tried playing it earlier with a 360 pad and... just no.  Just, no.

66,490. Last night my PC monitor went kaput, had to haul a 20 year old 19" CRT monitor up 3 flights of stairs. Sucks for everything else, but having a smaller playfield in MAME actually helped.

Sadly, also a necessity. The two spare LCD monitors I had went into my cabs, so now I have to squint at this CRT monster.

I just bought another 20" 4:3 IPS Monitor off Ebay for $20 shipped - they still have a few if you don't mind it not having the stand ( has the VESA 100 Mounting holes so is easy to mount on a wall mount - OR might be able to reuse one of the stands you pulled from the 2 you put in cabs ! ) - https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-LP2065-20-1-LCD-Monitor-NO-BASE/183227281148?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Thanks for the link, unfortunately I'm in Germany, so the shipping costs would probably be higher than the costs for the monitor.

The monitor that went kablooie is a 23", I don't want to go smaller than that, so I'll just have to scout Ebay Germany and hope that something suitable pops up.

Seems the company I bought from also is listed on Ebay Germany for the same price but not sure what the shipping cost is ( It's in German ! ) - https://www.ebay.de/itm/HP-LP2065-20-1-LCD-Monitor-NO-BASE/183227281148?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D43784%26meid%3D742decfaae424ea586c4540a9e0ad585%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D183227281148%26itm%3D183227281148&_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042

The seller is in Calexico, California. Shipping cost would be $49,39 + $8,79 taxes. That's a bit steep for a monitor that is 3" too small...

I'm going to pick Flicky... But I'm at work right now and can't make the post. If someone wants to make the post for me and doesn't mind keeping score that would be fine. Standard setting are probably fine. Otherwise I'll have to put the post up in about 5 and a half hours when I get home.
