Angle of monitor for display in cabinet?
« on: May 16, 2018, 07:42:16 pm »
Is there a normal accepted angle that a display is normally set at in order to provide best visibility?  I currently have my control panel angled 10 degrees downward but I'm not sure if there is a normally accepted angle for the display itself...  :dunno

Original cabinets ran the spectrum from monitors that were straight up and down to ones that we almost completely facing up. Need to see your cabinet to make a suggestion. However 10 degrees back is generally safe with all designs.

I guess it's also depending on the height of the monitor. And your own height. When you are looking down on the screen I would say it can be angled down more...

During my design phase - I set it all up on a bench and checked everything against the design in Sketchup.

Doing an ergonomic walk through was worth the effort.
From my original design I changed:
- Angle of CP
- Height of screen
- Angle of screen
- CP layout

I think the height of the CP was the only thing I got right..
Worth doing a mockup and play your favorite game to make sure it feels right..

*** I'll add - I played Centipede for about 2 weeks too!  Each adjustment I tried for a day or two to make sure it was not a snap decision... ***

A frankenpanel like that generally means the monitor should be straight up or slightly tilted back. Might want to reconsider that panel shape for a normal rectangle or the slight front curve that people like now, those corners are really just good for poking people in the stomach.

Point well-taken

About 60 degrees from horizontal is typical, similar to NBA Jam and the like, as well as the Asian cabinets. Seems to be the best for multi-game cabs. I like it.
