Extending Wiring Harness

I have a wiring harness (from Ultimarc if it matters), that connects into the ipac ultimate

However I don't quite have enough length to reach to the P1 joystick...

What's the best way to extend?
- is splicing the wire to make it longer going to lead to me getting latency or anything
- can I just cut and 'twist' in an extra bit of wire
- Is there an extension connector I can buy easily (I don't have a crimper etc)

This plan requires small wire nuts.   

I don't have a crimper

You don't have to spend the big bucks to buy pin-specific Molex brand crimper tools, but at least get these Harbor Freight ratchet crimpers. (Only $12 with a 20% coupon)

Put a male QD on one end of the extension wire and a female QD on the other end.

That said, maybe buying a cheap crimping tool might be worthwhile

Buy yourself a set of wire stretchers... and stretch that harness out the the length you need!

Because if you do it this way, it will most certainly disconnect at the slightest pull. The adhesive from the tape will also assist in corrosion on the wire over time. If you're going to twist at least get the small wire nuts. They cost you next to nothing and will keep your wires where you want them. The crimping method that pl1 describe is the best method though.

Well, I bought a crimper. Waited days for it to arrive, tested it on a spare piece of wire, worked great. Tried it on the cables from my harness and they were far too thin to hold and just slipped out.

Resorted to twisting and soldering. Job done

If they are to thin strip them extra long, twist the strands then double them over.
