Using Motherboard's Output Instead of Graphics Card

Figured I'll ask this instead of risk waste more time once parts arrive.

Rather simple question, can I use my motherboards VGA out instead of my graphics card's outputs? Since my ATI card only has Svideo and DVI.

For my video out to the CRT monitor.

I'm asking because I got the CRT Emudrivers and wondering if they still take affect when using the motherboard's outputs.

No, i don't think you can use the motherboards VGA port. And if you could, it wouldn't be EDID protected. You'll need one of those $2 DVI-to-VGA adapters plugged into a DVI-I port.

You bolded the wrong thing: the important thing is that you have an ATI card with DVI port. First you need to determine whether it is DVI-I or not (Google the card specs!  ). If it is, then use the dongle or whatever to get your RGB out of there to wherever it needs to go.

the "built in" motherboard video connectors (integrated video) utilize your board/CPU/ram as the "video device"... while it does work as a video device for simple desktop applications, it's performance is limited (actually pretty trashy) when it comes to games and graphics. Even if you install a top of the line video card you will not receive any performance benefits through these integrated video ports. Only monitor devices connected directly to the video card itself will benefit from the processing power of the card.

Procesing power is not the relevant factor here, the driver is. I don't think the integrated port will use the driver the video card relies on, and you can't "channel," for want of a better word, a video output to that port using the driver from another port. He's trying to use crt_emudriver to get 15kHz, as far as i'm aware.

The OP should just use the ATI card, assuming it has DVI-I. CRT_emudriver install will do nothing with the onboard VGA port. It is a hack for the drivers that control your graphics (ATI/AMD) card, it does not hack onboard graphics drivers.

Usually the onboard VGA port is simply turned off while there is a graphics card is installed. If you install emudriver then remove the ATI card, the PC will fall back to the standard graphics driver and you will still just get normal VGA from the onboard VGA, as though CRT_emudriver was not there.
