I use mame081 and have Windows 7.

All my 70 or so games work just fine in mame. But when i launch maximus arcade, simpsons 2 player and xmen vs streetfighter won't show up inn the games list. I can't even see them. I bet they'd work just fine if i could find them ij maximus.

I have changed paths long she short forced rescan everytime but those games still just will not show up.

Anyone have this before?

  • All wife wanted was Outrun.
Maybe physically delete the gamelist file itself, then force rescan?

I'll give it a shot.

I have no idea why maximus won't recognize random games in the mame games list. It's just not making sense.

No go.

Maximus just won't recognize a few random games in my mame games list

Are the same games being skipped?

Can you run the skipped games from the command line?

Post a decent-sized sample of the skipped titles -- they might have something in common like a missing BIOS or driver file.   :dunno

You mentioned that Maximus couldn't find these two titles:
- Simpsons 2 player
- Xmen vs Street Fighter

Both of these titles are what are known as "child ROMs" of a "parent ROM".

The parent ROM is the master version and has all the ROM files for that game.
- "The Simpsons (4 Players World, set 1)" => simpsons.zip
- "X-Men Vs. Street Fighter (Euro 961004)" => xmvsf.zip

The child ROM only has the ROMs that are different than the ones in the parent.
- "The Simpsons (2 Players World, set 1)" => "simpsons2p.zip
- "X-Men Vs. Street Fighter (USA 961023)" => xmvsfu.zip

simpsons.zip contains these files
Quote
simpsons.12c.nv
072-d04.1d
072-d05.1f
072-b08.3n
072-e03.6g
072-b09.8n
072-b10.12n
072-j13.13c
072-j12.15c
072-g02.16c
072-b06.16h
072-b11.16l
072-g01.17c
072-b07.18h

simpsons2p.zip contains these files
Quote
simpsons2p.12c.nv
072-g03.6g
072-013.13c
072-012.15c
072-p01.17c

When Maximus/MAME checks if "The Simpsons (2 Players World, set 1)" is playable, it looks in simpsons2p.zip for the ROM files.

- When it doesn't find files like "072-d04.1d", it looks for them in the parent simpsons.zip.

- Since you don't have simpsons.zip in your ROM directory, Maximus/MAME concludes that the game is not playable because ROMs are missing.

Here are two ways to work around this:

1. Easy way
- Put simpsons.zip, simpsons2p.zip, xmvsf.zip, and xmvsfu.zip in the ROMs folder.
- When you rescan, this will add "The Simpsons (2 Players World, set 1)", "The Simpsons (4 Players World, set 1)", "X-Men Vs. Street Fighter (USA 961023)", and "X-Men Vs. Street Fighter (Euro 961004)" to the list.

2. Harder way if you don't want "The Simpsons (4 Players World, set 1)" and "X-Men Vs. Street Fighter (Euro 961004)" on the list.
- Copy the files from the parent ROMs (simpsons.zip and xmvsf.zip) into the child ROMs. (simpsons2p.zip and xmvsfu.zip)
- When you rescan, this will add "The Simpsons (2 Players World, set 1)" and "X-Men Vs. Street Fighter (USA 961023)" to the list.

Hmmm the only problem is i already have simpsons. It recognizes the 4 player version just not the 2 player one. All my games play in mame alone.

I noticed the punisher is also only playing in mame and not even showing up in maximus.

Its weird.....
