Superman Cab
« on: April 02, 2018, 10:11:54 am »
Im just showing off my Custom Mame cab. Im a huge superman fan so i recreated the 1988 superman arcade cab. Nothing is original. I built it all from the ground up. I've been dying for somewhere to post it online so i hope people here can appreciate it! Its my first ( and likely last...)

Im a new member but I've come here for guidance over the past 15 months of this project....(i never have freetime. Lol)

Comments/critiques welcome!

That looks great. I love the bright colors you used.  :applaud:

I actually like that game and have thought about building a similar cab.

It really needs a coin door though.

End result looks great, looks like a conversion not a ground up build.

Do you have any "in progress" pictures to post?

I've actually got a Vindicators converted to a Superman... kinda-sorta donated it to a church like 10 years ago... they're probably ready for me to take it back.

I really like the fact that you picked one central theme and stuck with it. A cabinet doesn’t need to scream “OMG! BIDEO GAMEZ!!!”

LOLOL

i do like all kinds of cabs but i def wanted mine to have one central theme for aesthetics. Even though there's no coin door people still think i bought an old machine. That's exactly what i was going for.

About as pointless as building a cabinet. If you're good with a board sticking out of a pc with no asthetics, more power to you. I want to feel like i brought the "Arcade life" directly into my home office. So to accomplish that I'll probably get that coin door.

About as pointless as building a cabinet.

I can see both sides of it. All of my actual arcade games are set on free play. So I could say coin doors on actual cabs can be pointless ;)
Sadly I havent had a MAME cab in a long time, but when I did, it either had a coin button , or a coin up short cut.

So while aesthetically speaking, a coin door looks better (to me) functionally speaking its not really needed (to me). YMMV.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice cab. And yes, a coin door for some is ornamental (I use tokens on my games, so doors are a must). But if you’re going to do it, do it right! :)

Agree, a nice coin door will really add to this build. Other than that, I can't critique, this is a great cab that knows what it is. I absolutely love it!

I don’t know your location, but here’s a nice over/under coin door. If you’re local, you could score a great deal on it:

Thanks!!!

As much as im hearing it, i think I've decided that i WILL be getting one. After all its a "replica" and its just not measuring up if it doesn't replicate the feel of the original machine, which was that it was commercial and had a coin door. Therefore.....This replica needs a coin door.

If you don’t have a coin door, you’ve got a piece of furniture that plays video games.

Or you could just take it to the next level and build a piece of furniture disguised to play bideo gamez.

I've got a coin door off an Arachnid Super Six you can have for free if you get to Houston.  Would have to weigh it to get a shipping estimate....

Now that i think of it, gas may be more than shipping.

I'll double check that I still have it.  I had a machine out on my porch and the humidity killed it.  There's a pretty active collector community in this state, you close to any major cities?
