J-Stick issue

I had this problem initially, but then I grabbed the botton end of the shaft with some pliers, and twisted the knob on real tight with my hand.  They haven't worked loose ever since!

I tend to follow the redneck way of repairing things:

1) If it moves, and it ain't 'spose to--use Duck Tape or Epoxy.
2) If it don't move, and it's 'spose to--git out the WD-40.
2a) If it still don't move--git a bigger hammer.
It WILL move--trust me.

Doesn't the j-stick shaft have a groove at the bottom that is perfect for a flat head screw driver to help you hold the shaft steady whilst you crank down the ball?
