RESOLVED - Megatouch Ion - Shutting down
« on: March 17, 2018, 12:49:52 am »
So I have an ion that is shutting down after playing games for a few minutes. I’ve replaced the power supply and set fixed the top two fans to exhaust and the behavior hasn’t changed. It will power back up immediately is you cycle the switch and let me play games for a few minutes. My first thought was an auto thermal shutdown, but nothing seems terribly warm. Any thoughts?

It’s not the purple board of death and the caps look good to me.

I feel like I’m missing something right in front of me.

Trying to reinstall the 2012 software and it’s stuck at the license agreement screen. I can’t remember what I did last time to get past this and I forgot to update the thread. lol

I have never seen that screen before. It looks like there should be an image behind the text like a red NO and a green YES. This leads me to believe you have a corrupt Hard drive.

This is while booting from the DVD’s to reinstall the software.

possible faulty ram slot...try swapping the ram from it's current slot, into the other slot.

possible faulty ram stick....

possible faulty CD drive...

possible faulty CD media...

possible failing CPU TIM... disconnect fan and run system in the bios screen monitoring the temperature for a few minutes and see if the heatsink gets hot as the CPU temps go up. if not, the TIM is toast and not pulling heat out of the CPU...replace thermal CPU paste. scrape that yellow crap off and replace it with some good stuff.

Put new thermal paste and it's running like a champ.
