Can anyone compile mame with this hack? (Geecabs steering hack)

Hi all.   I’m wondering if anyone can compile mame or mameui with this hack in geecabs thread below...

I’ve tried to compile a newer version of mame and obviously got something wrong as I get an error when it gets to the hacked file.  No idea.

Unless someone has managed to do this hack to a new version they could share?

Why not just compile on an old version for those driving games. I remember all the important ones playing pretty good from a player's perspective long before that time.

Chances are good that too much has changed to the mame input code to just bolt this on to a mame that is almost 50 versions newer.

Yes it looks like it has.  The code is completely different.  I’ll try and compile a 0.159 as I think that’s when ridge racer works from and see if the code is anything like 0.148. If it is it should work.
If I can get it to work I’ll post it here....

Ok so I’ve tried to compile mame 0.155 (downloaded source code from mame website)
The hacked file is exactly the same, so I’ve pasted it over as shown in geecabs thread,  all good...
Then when I try and compile All I get is this error...

I wish I could help. I read geecabs thread and was hoping this would be put in Mame. Running .185 - would love to see this working.

I’ve got the hack written into 0.158 as I changed at 0.159 so the hack wouldn’t work after 0.158,  all ready to go but it needs compiling.  It just keeps failing when I try it.  If someone could compile my hacked source code, happy days...
