Video card for CRT Emudriver
« on: February 09, 2018, 07:09:20 pm »
Trying to determine what is the best option for a new video card to run crt emudriver.  From what I've seen in some posts, it sounds like 6xxx cards work the best now?

Trying to get one to work with my Sega mc-2000 crt.

The current card in the computer is a GeForce GTX 560 SE which appears to use a PCI Express 2.0 x16 port, so I'd need a card that uses that connection.

I want to make sure I get something that will be powerful enough to run the majority of arcade games but don't want to spend more on one that I don't need.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

BTW - looking in the GroovyMAME forum, one link specifies that the HD 4000 series is the latest series of Radeon cards supported on Win 7 with CRT Emudriver, but another post mentioned the HD 7000 series.

I assume the first mention was an older post and the HD 7000 series of cards are now supported under Win 7?

Win10 is now supported as well as Win7. A Radeon R9 380 is about as high as it goes, but anything from the 5000 series up is good. More powerful cards are better for newer 3D stuff, of course, but you should check out any card before buying to make sure it has DVI-I or VGA.

This is the download and links for crt_emudriver 2.0 - http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=295 showing OS and supported cards. Any supported GPU will have a full size PCI-E edge connector, you don't need to worry.

If you're stuck, i wrote out this guide a while back - https://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php/87668-A-guide-to-connecting-your-Windows-PC-to-an-SD-CRT-TV-PVM-or-Arcade-Monitor but it's pretty long-winded.

I'm using this card (HD6450) with Windows 7 and have had no problems.  Works great.  Not sure if I could have gone cheaper with something lesser, but for $45, I'm pleased.
