American laser games crosshair
« on: January 23, 2018, 02:04:22 am »
Anybody that plays these type of games without the crosshair visible ?

I tried to disable crosshair in Service Menu but it crashes instantly.
So i made the crosshair transparent with some Photoshop.
Only when you play a game its like you shoot but it doesnt align with the shots Always especially in corners

If there is someone out there that plays it without any trouble without crosshairs , your advice is welcome of course

I used transparent crosshairs when I had Act Labs S-video guns and a CRT screen.  It worked great.

I wouldn't attempt to use IR guns without the onscreen crosshairs, which is why I don't have any guns on my LCD cab.

I would say your problem is your guns are not calibrated or tracking properly.

The cross hairs are a real representation of where it thinks your gun is pointing.

i just replaced a cable for my aimtrak  ,   calibrated it so its precise.
But it appears during the game i tested it on a game with crosshair visible the crosshair is all over the place which is why its giving me prblems with a transparent crosshair.

in mame it isnt giving me trouble , so i have to figure out why in Daphne singe its all over the place

Uh, there is somebody else still playing this old crap  ;D

I have the original "Six Guns Select" arcade hardware with Mad Dog. And the games are really fun.

I wanted to give a rest to the old hardware and play the games on my emulation PC instead. So i got everything for Daphne/Singe.

But also from my experience American lasergames gun control is working verly poorly in Daphne Singe.
The shoots are off most of the time. Sometime it looks like they are not registered fast enaugh.
Also the user interface looks grainy and ugly.

Simply no fun to play. Better try the windows versions. But for windows I only have the CDs für Crime Patrol and not Mad Dog.

i tried it again and its like even with making a little blocky dot visible in the game the shots are off i think it has  to do with the resolution which Daphne singe uses with the crosshair.

i calibrated my guns and its working perfect mame others

In daphne singe, you have to run it with - fullscreen_window to play with absolute coordinates. If you run it with -fullscreen, coordinates are relative and guns wont work.

Also note that Winuae is supporting American Laser Games.
In my understanding this is because arcade ALG worked with an amiga with a LD player.
But for now it seems only the Laser Disc contents of Gallagher Gallery and an italian version of Mad dog2 are found.

Thank you that's a very interessting info.
I'll try to find the rom and video for WinUAE.

Do you know somebody who is working on that project on WinUAE side?
I have the video files in good quality for Mad Dog and Mad Dog 2 from an Arcade harddisk version called "Six Gun Select".

I don't know how close this is to the old laserdisk version. But I could try, if i'd have the italian version with the required naming schema for the files.

Well, that Tony willen I think works in the project.
Also note that at least, Mad dog 2, Crime Patrol, Drug Wars, and Gallaghers Gallery are two players games, and Winuae support raw input (two guns).
About a year ago in that post there were all alg roms, including Fastdraw Showdown and los justicieros, but only the videos of Gallaghers gallery, Mad dog 2 ,and platoon (that didnt work). So I think we only need the video of the rest of the games.
the Six gun select you have only seem to have one gun, is it right?
Is that arcade Laser disc too? It would be amazing to have the wole collection trough Winuae.
I tested Mad dog 2 and you have to set the two player option in the test/service menu.

No.It is only one gun:

http://www.museumofplay.org/online-collections/22/67/112.2922

Videos are .mpg files on the installation disks.
With speaking names like "bank" or "saloon".
I was always wondering, if they are related to tracks on the original laser disk.

sure, but the only way to know that is to have the original, so...
Anyway I think it would be difficult to keep the same timings.

You are probably right.
I took a look into the installation CDs of the Arcade version yesterday.
There are a whole lot of MPG files. Naming is quite similar to the framefiles in Singe.

The arcade system is running on "Joshua OS" (like the Ultracades), with drivers for Intel 810, 815 chipsets only.
I have read that the harddisk serial is used to lock the software to the dedicated hardware.

Is there any VM technology that could emulate an Intel 810 based PC on chipset level?

Just wondering what a second player is doing in Mad Dog.
There is not so much to shoot for.

If the controls are better might consider trying this out ,

I like to play most gun games without crosshair with Daphne the crosshair is a pixel & not accurate with aimtrak you have to play it with a crosshair
