HI, I am going to build basically this exact cabinet. Was wondering if you are willing to send over the plans to me? Really appreciate it!

Awesome, Thank You!

I'm about 1/3 of the way through the project, but didn't make the dado cuts for the bezel.Any suggestions?

They are not required.  Most bezels have 3/4" blocking behind them.  You should be able to do that and make the glass a little narrower.  If you didn't do them on the shelf or the speaker box - then you can also do the same - but you may have to add some edging to the face that you can tack down to hold it in place.  I used dados only because the lines were nice and clean..

super clean. this is real close to the cabs I build at school, I might just use your drawings and stop cutting the sides myself. Its my least favorit part of making a cab. Its the only part i dont let the students do and I know a locsl shop that will do it cheap. I always knock 14 inches off the bottom so they ca sit and play because bar stool just get in the way and I have 30 standard chairs already

Geat job :applaud:

My school is for minors who have served long sentences and cant go back to regular school. A lot of them shot people who didnt die in the middle of gang warfare shoot outs. There are a lot of 13 year olds pulling triggers out here in Stockton

bperkins, great job on this cabinet! I was sitting down to look for a style to build for my upcoming cab, and got sucked into reading this whole thread. Very well documented, and I got some great ideas and tips from it. This is just about exactly the size / shape / design I was looking for!

Things I love :
- The filler space between the CP and glass, as a great place to stash a pile of tokens.
- The cabinet handles and casters
- the 1/2" angled bezel between the glass and monitor
- The slightly bowed front panel on the CP. Great, subtle design element. I think I could pull that off with a buttload of clamps instead of a vacuum.

Also, much appreciated that you posted the plans and drawings with specs. Very cool all around!

Nice build!  Just getting started on mine and appreciate all the details and pictures.  Wish I had half of the woodworking tools you do......

The majority of this hobby can be had with a circular saw, jigsaw, and router. I have a lot of tools but have only used these for the most of the cabs I have built!

would you happened to have in sketchup all the parts laid out on the 4x8 plywood, it would make it easier to start this project so i know all the pieces fit?
unless i didn't see it, i looked in the sketchup file you had for download but didn't see it in there.

thank you!

Made some more progress over the last couple days.

My plan all along was to box & insulate the speakers.  Here I added rails and a back panel to enclose the top coaxial speakers.

A box within a box.

Same plan for the subwoofer (also quite inexpensive)

Simple 12 x 12 x 4 box over it.  They will get wired and insulated during final assembly.

My next task was to create a bezel for the monitor (32" LCD)..  I was able to gently pop off the bezel for the monitor itself.  This will allow it to mate up flush to the 1/2" MDF I'm using in the cabinet.

The plan was simple - draw the line on the MDF blank that I needed - precut with a jig saw - the finish cutting on the router table using a fence to get it straight.

Here you see the fence on the left - cutting a straight line.. and...

The router bit grabbed because I was going against the cutter direction and pulled right through the bezel...  ok  .. Now I'll do it the right way..  after a trip to the Depot to buy another 2x4x1/2" MDF.

This time I double stick taped guide blocks to the (new) cutout.

Then used the pattern bit to follow the guide to get my opening..

Since I was able to get the bezel off of the LCD - I wanted my bezel to have a little bit of angle on the opening..  I had a 14deg dovetail bit.

I'm doing the exact thing that caused the first MDF failure - using the fence and trying not to accidentally pull the work into the bit..  Howver - I'm taking off much less material with the dovetail bit.  I'm making sure the piece can't lift with the feather board..  and.. I'm routing in the proper direction with the bit.
I started in a corner, started the router and lowered the bit down to get the cut profile.

I was very careful to keep it tight against the fence and create the profile.

Then you have to stop in the corner, turn the router off, move the fence, turn the piece to the new side against the fence and repeat for all 4 sides.

The color is off for some reason - I used some blocking and mounted the monitor directly to the bezel and connected the PC to it..  I'll be painting it black and covering with a smoked tempered glass..

Great build! And thanks for the awesome pictures!
Curious why you used MDF for the bezel instead of plywood?

Hi - and thanks :)

I used MDF for the bezel because it was 1/2" - and it is perfectly smooth.  I painted it black..  If I used plywood - the wood grain would show at the bevel where it touches the monitor.  There would be a lot of work to make plywood smooth.. I normally do not use MDF - but this is a good place for it.

Here is my Lakeside build. Not nearly as perfect as OP but am happy with it. Still trying to figure out a CP graphic and figuring out if I want to do some sort of glass or plexi in front of monitor. Thanks a lot bperkins for your detailed built and prints!
