yeah, I wish I didnt work at Chrysler for a decade, I'd be much further along in my IT career now. c'est la vie.

This new place is acting like they want to groom me to take over the lead in a few years, we'll see. For now, more money for pinball games!

Pinball? GTFO.

That's right. Darts, bitches.

Not really.  TNG is one of the most popular pinball tables of all time.  The fact that you don't know that....  You can like the older tables all you want, but they didn't sell nearly as well as the DMD based machines of the 90's

You can chill, help me adjust the switches on Comet, and figure out why the Star Gate ramps on SFII are still functionally retarded. It'll be a blasty blast! And more Zapcon money!

Johnny Mneumonic is a "DMD based machine of the 90's".   ::)

There's like 10 switches on the playfield on Comet.  Chop, chop.

As for the ramps, you probably need to take apart the solenoid mechanisms and clean them.  Gottlieb machines of that era are way overbuilt and maintenance should be easy.  You might also be having problems with their weird smart switches, but those can be replaced with regular leaf switches.  If they do anything at all, then your logic and wiring are good.

Another thing to look at might be switches (or optos?  Can't remember what it used..) further down the ramp.  Your ball enters the ramp, hits a switch, starts up a sound/animation, and as it goes down the ramp it'll trigger a second switch to let the game know you've successfully completed the shot.  If that isn't happening, your stargate ramps are going to act up.  Williams 90s games usually had a third switch halfway down the ramp but Gottlieb/DE only had them at entrance and exit.

My Comet issue is that after the swap, I had to adjust everything (all the extra layers of clear made everything taller than a 30 yr old PF) , and for the most part they are golden, but the tolerances are so tight that sometimes the flipper shakes the machine enough to trigger the "1986" switches. That and Im missing 1 of those things that keeps the switch arm from sliding off the game, I might just put the one I have on the inside and a dab of hot glue on the outside to keep it in place.

SFII has just been a nightmare. I replaced the full assemblies on both ramps including coils, even replaced the factory board with a Rotten Dog replacement, and there's still fuckery afoot.  Good news is my LW3 baords should be back any day now!

You clearly have no idea what I do, or do not know. And should probably stop assuming so.

The golden era of pinball was long over before DMD came around.

When talking about "popular" pins... STTNG is never brought up. It's good, I enjoy it. But it is not nearly as popular as TAF, MM, TZ, etc...

I did see a STTNG rotting away in a forest in Leadville, CO several years ago... Naff.

Sorry man, but if you don't hear your pinball friends talking about TNG then find new friends.  Just doing a random google search:  https://pinside.com/pinball/top-100  I believe it's up there in one of the top selling machines of all time as well.  If you don't like it then that is fine, but it is an objectively popular table, meaning you are in the minority so please don't pretend that it isn't popular.

There you have it folks, narcissism at it's core. Howard's school of friendships: if they don't agree with your tastes, get rid of them.  ::)

Besides, the TNG pin isn't even in the top-10 and not worth talking about.

Meh.  It’s okay but never worth the theme premium to me.  The new Stern one is enjoyable.

Cueball Wizard is legitimately good, regardless of manufacturer.

Popularity...

STTNG had just under 12k machines produced... 25 years ago.
MM had 4k machined produced... 21 years ago.

Using the link you've provided...
MM has over 1400 reviews. STTNG has 770 reviews. Half as many...
There are just over 1450 STTNG machines on Pinside's pinmap, and around 1250 original MM machines. STTNG has suffered much higher casualties to time than MM has.

I'll walk up and play any STTNG I see in the wild. I enjoy the table. But it is far from popular, when there are well over 20 other titles that have more people taking time to review the machine.

You don't hear of a STTNG remake happening... because it's not popular.

Looking forward to see what you spin this one into...

Deadlifted 315lbs today.  I think that means I could lift most of you now.

Fantastic! I'm all about anybody who makes time to worship in the holy house of GAINS!

Been working on my strength and speed both. No big numbers to put up yet, but I am dropping quarter miles in 1:30-1:35.  Lifting is mostly cross functional stuff but starting to work on the ol'V to get ready for summer

I started in May last year and was struggling with 80lbs.  So when you start at ground zero, at least there’s a lot of progress.  I aspire to the 1,000 pound club.  Probably take another year.  :embarassed:

Congrats!

I have recently had body strength on my mind as I have been doing some projects that require some muscle.  In my 20's and 30's I regularly worked with sheets of MDF (100-120 lbs per sheet).  I could grab a sheet, carry it to a saw, and prop it up and rip it without help.  A couple weeks ago I picked up 10 sheets for my theater project and I struggled to even help my son lift them in and out of the truck.  I could barely drag them around the shop let alone pick one up!  And I picked up some 5/8 drywall, and the two sheet stacks are crazy heavy, and even with help I was struggling.  Again in my youth I was tasked with moving an 8 foot high stack of 4x12 5/8 drywall and I moved it all by myself, two sheets at a time.  Today I couldn't even lift one of those sheets without help.  And I am not that old!

The last few times I had to dead lift something over a couple hundred pounds I hurt my back, or shoulder, or some muscle or joint.  Any more the thought of going to lift things on purpose makes me sick to my stomach, I can't even think about going to a gym to lift stuff.

Had the chance last night to have dinner with my homie Rablack97 (he’s in town for a work thing). We picked up a tipsy Jawhn, had some sammiches, then went to Cobra Arcade Bar where I watched Rodney school youngins. Good stuff!!!

Standing in the rain, in front of a church, listening to goth music... and playing Pokémon.
