I personally know two men that sawed off fingers cutting boards while having a beer.  I’ve already spent an Easter having metal scraped out of my eye.  Don’t mess around with power tools, son.

I know several idiots as well. But don't waste the day, you can be sober when you're dead!

Chuff: On a flight right now to a pretty amazing buainess trip. My boss, coworker and I are flying to San Diego to receive an international business award. Will be seeing President Obama tomorrow then going to a reception on a big ass yacht.

Full disclosure, I did very little to deserve this.  :lol

Damn, son.

Well, didn’t end up building a cabinet, but I did swap two E Stiks that I have hated for 12 years with some cheap chinese junk.  Gotta love China... $15 for a joystick, or $18 for the joystick, buttons, and encoder.  Delivered on a Sunday by Amazon.  And they’re still way better than those damn E Stiks.

First time I ever used threaded inserts, too.  Man.... everything else I’ve done feels amateurish now.

This thing is so damned ridiculous.  Cycles colors.  Even made a dust washer that works with a wooden panel.  Took three attempts but ultimately the trick was to get the cut started with a hole saw, used a step bit to widen the central hole, then finish it off with the hole saw.

Today I feel good,  I have successfully completed 20 Years of Married Life and still want to spend time with my wife. Now if only I could stop her spending all my money I may be able to start saving for a renewal ceremony in 5 years time when we get to Silver wedding anniversary and turn 50 in the same 4 week period.  Woot, Looking forward to that party :)

Oh and I finally got the Garden finished, I'll never have to mow again :)

My mom had a pulmonary embolism two weeks ago.  Not chuffy.  The fact I get to spend another Mothers Day with her is chufftastic.  Scared the living ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of me when it happened.

I hope your mom's recovery is going well.

She is Mike.  Thank you.  She was a CCU nurse for years so when she had shortness of breath she knew something was wrong.  Her and dad went to the emergency room right away.  She had a saddle pulmonary embolism (blockage) which straddles the pulmonary trunk that goes into the heart.  It only occurs in 2.6% of all pulmonary embolisms but it can be fatal if not caught.  They put blood thinners through a drip line right onto the blockage for the first 3 days in the ICU then once it broke up she was released and placed on oral blood thinners.  It was scary couple of days.

Yeah, it was a bad transistor. The funny thing is that the schematics were also wrong as well. By the power of Greyskull (and deduction), I swapped out the correct one and fixed the issue. The bumper used to just chime but not bump, but now it flings the ball back to you at great speed, making for a better game.

I always thought it was kind of nutty that pop bumpers were designed not to fire unless told to do so by the game logic.  Seems like it would be better to have them work and not score versus doing nothing because a drive transistor is blown.  All it would take is two switches.  Oh well.

Question for Jimbo, Jenni, and any other pinheads....

If I wanted to mod my pin to play sounds when an action happens, I know I can get boards to do so. If I’m going to tap into the play field switches, should I use diodes to prevent any crosses signals? Don’t want to fry something.

I would use a diode between the switch and your sound device (blocking signals from your sound board from getting to your machine).

Other option is to simply add another switch.

I've toyed around with this idea and was never happy with the results.  What's your idea?

The Roy Clark pin has chimes and stuff, which are cool, but I want to add some sounds to spice it up. Ol’ Roy is a great guitar player, and I thought it would be cool to add sound to things like coin up, game start, and some of the targets.

Too bad it doesn't award free games, you could cue it up to play "If I had to do it all over again"

So, the problem you'll run into is that the game frequently doesn't do much during those events.  For game start - how are you going to detect that?  Every time someone pushes the start button?  Well, that's going to cause problems when people press it mid-game, or press it several times in a row, or press it when there's no credits on the game.

Sometimes games have lights that only come on at certain times.  You can use an optoisolator to drive a switch with those lights... but that's going to cause chaos if those lights do anything during attract mode.  You could get around that by using the flipper enable relay to turn your sound board off and on, but now you're getting complicated.

Frankly, the only solutions I've seen that work have either replaced the chimes with a sound board (Gott Sys 1, the aftermarket PinTone boards) or it's basically been a computer that sits between the MPU and the sound board and intercepts the sound cues.  Another option, if you just want beeps and bloops, is to use a Williams sound board and ground out the individual pins on the chips with various switch inputs.

Anyway, buy one of these and get to work, bro:

. . . or you can save a few bucks by using one of these options.
Adafruit makes several no programming sound FX boards.

These two look rather promising.

Adafruit Audio FX Sound Board - WAV/OGG Trigger with 16MB Flash - here

Adafruit Audio FX Sound Board - WAV/OGG Trigger with 2MB Flash - here

The boards have momentary/looping/latching/random/sequential playback options set by filename.  Brilliant!   :applaud:
