Button LED not illuminating
« on: December 29, 2017, 10:22:25 pm »
Not sure what’s going on here. I’ve been trying to find the answer on the forum but no luck probably because it’s so simple.

I’m trying to get a button to light up using an IPac Ultimate and I’ve also tried using PACLED64. I’ve connected the wires according to instructions yet no illumination.

What exactly is needed to illuminate the LED? The usb or the power cable or both?

What exactly are you trying to achieve? Just light the buttons? And what kind of buttons do you have?

Both.

The USB is for communication the power is for the power lol

Both these boards have a default script which should illuminate each LED at least for some of the time.

A USB connection is required which must have power although no software needs to be running, and the round LED power connector must have power.

and be sure the round power connector is 5v..   (Not 12v!)

The voltage needs to match the LEDs. All LEDs we supply require 5V
So 5V should be used for these and all "plain" LEDs which dont have any current-limit resistors.

12V for 12V LEDs.

Initially I just wanted to test that my crimping job was sufficient. I though it was easy as plugging in the power connector and I'd get the button to light up.

I have two types. Ultimarc chrome with their pre-wired LEDs and iL translucent rim with Helio 9 LEDs.

Both.

The USB is for communication the power is for the power lol

This is what I figured but didn't think I needed the communication USB just to get them to light up.

OK, good to know it has a default script...this means the button should be lighting up...problem has to lie in either the crimping or power connector

and be sure the round power connector is 5v..   (Not 12v!)

Ummm.....ok....soooo...can the board withstand 12.1V for a little bit?

Right, and I would need to get that 12V power to the LED through an external source....not the Ultimate I/O?

Try simplifying the setup to see if you can narrow down the problem. Remove the iPac from the setup and test just the led buttons. Will the buttons light up if you wire them direct to power?

Forgive my electronic ignorance, but do I just touch the power lead of the LED to one of the positive terminals on the power supply and leave the RGB wires disconnected?

Think of a RGB LED as 3 separate LED’s sharing a common.

So connect up between the Common and one of the RGB wires.

LEDs are polarity sensitive, If you connect it the wrong way round it will not work.
