Pleiades / Phoenix multigame
« on: December 04, 2017, 08:56:00 am »
I have a Pleiades cabinet and I am on the hunt for a Phoenix PCB. Both games use the same pinout and controls. I would like to switch between the two games in the same cabinet. I saw a Youtube video where a guy used a relay board with 16 relays on it. He could then switch between the two games without switching harnesses. It seems simple enough. I was just wondering if anyone here has tried something similar, and if there are any problems with that implementation.

I buy my switchers premade, but if you’re confident of rolling your own, go for it.

I have seen JAMMA switchers. Does someone do custom switchers?

Chopperthedog did something similar with his Defender multi.

I have a bootleg Phoenix board kicking around here somewhere if anyone is interested.

I've seen that video before.  Seemed like a ton of work.

Why not just buy a pre-made Phonix to JAMMA adapter (x2) and a JAMMA 2 in 1 switcher?

However, I will say it won't be cheap to have a plug and play solution.  (At least you have options).

Then I would also need to go JAMMA to Pleiades cab at the end. That would be three adapters and a JAMMA switcher. That would get a little pricey.

Is this what you were thinking?

Yeah. Then you also need the other three adapters because the PCBs aren't JAMMA and the cabinet is not wired for JAMMA. So I either need to spend over 200 dollars for the switch and all the adapters or about 30 dollars for a relay board and edge connectors. It all depends on how much I value my time.

I think it's cool regardless.

If you can roll your own and design it for your exact purposes I say that's the best way.

I've never understood why those board switchers are so complicated/expensive.  Couldn't you simply put a switch across the power supply and ground and wire in both boards simultaneously?  You'd have to endure the boot up sequence...

I think I will roll my own. I already have a 16 relay board laying around from my pond controller. All I need to buy is the edge connectors. Of course I will have to find the time to do it. My plate is pretty full right now and I don't have a Phoenix board yet.
