  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
MAME minimising/ losing focus
« on: November 26, 2017, 05:10:06 am »
I use Mala as my front end and MAME as my emulator. If I play a game, sometimes it will minimise and I will see the MALA screen as though it has been ALT+tabbed to. There is nothing of note on the Mala screen - no prompts or anything. :dunno

I have disabled windows hotkeys although I am still having the problem.

I have found a fair bit of information about Mala losing focus on MAME exit but nothing about it stealing focus.

I am on windows 7 64 bit, shelling straight into Mala

What version of Mala are you running? What version of Mame? Does this only happen when playing a Mame game? I also shell straight into Mala in windows 7 and I used to have the EXACT same issue but it was when I would launch a NES game. I resolved it by resetting the controls in the NES emulator because for some reason they had been all goofed up.

I have also seen a Mame game lose focus like you describe if the Mala setting for Mame is set to a setting that is not full screen.

I have also seen this in Mame from a certain P1 default Mame key combination where that key combo is also the windows shortcut to the start button so it steals the focus and looks like an alt-tab. This default windows command can't be disabled since it is not windows "hotkey". I can't recall this key combo but my son can find it all the time if he just key mashes the machine.
