What local multiplayer games do you play on your racing set up?
« on: November 25, 2017, 04:10:01 pm »
Recently achieved Daytona USA working on my twin cab (2 PCs emulating model 2). So now I'm excited to run around and find all the racing games that support local multiplayer. I'd prefer to stick to arcade so anyone can just sit down and play without having to navigate menus but there might be a couple of PC games I put on there in the end. Second priority is force feedback.

What I have heard of working so far is Sega Rally, Virtua Racing, Mario Kart DD. Any other suggestions?

is a definite must for multiplayer. The original PC version of Sega Rally 2 supports LAN (but I've never been able to get it working myself). Chase HQ 2 also works (again haven't been able to get it working myself, Boomslang mentioned awhile back how to do it, but I never got around to trying his solution). Sega Rally 3 using Teknoparrot can also be linked up and I think Initial D 6 can as well. and Virtua Formula are linkable in MAME, as are , and .

all of those. Sadly i can't get SR3 working still.

Also Grid, Dirt 3, and a few others.

Hi,

I'm new around here, but here are a few LAN racing games that we play (both PC and emulation):

  NASCAR Racing 2003
  Grand Prix Legends
  GT Legends
  Viper Racing
  Game Stock Car Extreme
  Grid
  Dirt 3
  Outrun 2006
  Virtua Racing
  Virtua Formula
  Daytona (the original)
Assetto Corsa (I think we tried this, but my PCs were too slow to play it well)
  rFactor

There are probably more - but that's all I can think of at the moment.  Hope that helps,
-Don

I have a strict obsession to only run arcade titles on my 4 player setup, so I'm not sure about any PC games.. but here we go!

My current setup:
  • Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 4 (1-4p)
  • Mario Kart Arcade GP DX (1-4p)
  • Daytona 3 (1-4p)
  • Sega Racing Classic (1-4p)
  • Initial D Arcade Stage 6 (1-2p)
  • Initial D Arcade Stage 7 (1-2p)
  • Wacky Races (1-4p)
  • Chase HQ 2 (1-2p)
  • Ford Racing Full Blown (1-4p)
  • Sega Rally 3 (1-4p)

Games I've heard of but don't currently have setup:
  • Anything from model 2 emulator - Not generally interested at this time.
  • Dead Heat - Haven't seen many confirmed cases of networking functional, and haven't seen how to adjust controls to a wheel.
  • A few networkable titles from MAME (Virtua Racing?) - Also not interested much here.
  • Road Fighters 3D - I don't think anyone has networking functional on this yet.
  • Battle Gear 4 Tuned - I'll probably set this up soon, sounds like everything works fine.
  • Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Arcade - Pretty broken right now. Can't fix controls and networking is not functional at this time.
  • Valve Limit R - Quite possibly the worst arcade racer ever made, so I won't be setting it up. But supposedly everything works ok.

Hi Stooz,
I see some suprises amongst your titles, which I would also like to try on my TWIN cab via local LAN:
* Initial D Arcade Stage 7 : I'm currently running Arcade Stage 6, because I thought that Stage 7 was not yet working on LAN ? (i have latest TP version)
* Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 4 : can you explain a little how you  run this?  Seems interesting.
* Sega Rally 3 : how far are we with LAN support ? I couldn't get it to work. Do you still need webcams attached for it to work? Does it still need to be in 192.168.0 ? (because i'm running 192.168.1.*)

Thanks
Patrick

Hey man.

I think ID7 local link is actually broken right now, but WAS working. Hopefully fix next version/soon.

Wangan 4 is a MESS. You'll need to follow some hardcore guides and posts from community from other sites to get running. It's one of the more difficult setups, isn't super stable, and requires Linux machines + Nvidia GPUs. For me personally, I have dual boot between Win10 and Ubuntu 16.04. It CANNOT be run in a VM.

Sega Rally 3 works fine, just confirmed myself again this evening with TP 1.34. All you have to do is set the Cab ID for each machine in ShellData folder. I think there might be something goofy with IP ranges (SEGA seems to like specific IP ranges on their arcade games...). Personally, my 4 machines are 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3, 192.168.1.4, 192.168.1.5

These values will work perfect for SR3 and Daytona 3.

Good luck!

Sega Rally 3 works fine.
Daytona 3 is hanging on power-on network... sometimes it says "good" on both cabs, but than it looses the connection again. It never continues into the game. I changed IP's of my cabs to 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3.
I read in the other thread that webcams are needed before LAN is working. Stooz, can you please confirm this with your setup? It seems you are running Win10. Do you need webcams to make LAN work on Daytona 3? I do not have any webcams here to test...

Hey I didn't think Ford Racing network was supported yet, how do you get that running?  I am using TeknoParrot to launch the game.

SR3 works fine for me.  Not tried Daytona 3 yet, I have the files but need to invest time into understanding the setup as from the threads on here it looks a bit complex (?) maybe not...

I have tried a million times to run without webcams on Win10, but seems to need them. I actually do have 4 webcams (although the image is sadly rotated funny).

Others have stated you can use ManyCam to setup a virtual cam (appears as a still picture in game) as well, but since I use real cams, I can't comment on that.

There is one claim so far of Win7 being able to LAN without any cams at all. But as far as I know, no one else has confirmed.

Hi, Ford network works ok. I think you just need to change Cabinet # in one of the config files, I think inside the "data" folder. I'm not sure if there is another IP restriction, but after that it should load ok.

I just tested now to confirm, and have several players entering a race no problem.

Currently, however, the brakes do not work, so I don't play very much. It's been a long running issue, hopefully fixed someday. :)

Hi,
I can confirm that Daytona 3 is working in LAN, by installing a virtual cam software.
I installed the free "Splitcam". I just needed to install it, without any configuration. Just install and let it run in its tray icon on both my cabs. (this evening I'm going to see if it even needs to run, maybe it's enough to install it without needing it to run)

After that, I put the IP of the master cab to 192.168.1.3 & the slave cab to 192.168.1.4. Than LAN link works fine.
It did NOT work when my master cab was 192.168.1.2! For some reason it seems the IP need to start from .3 at the end.

The IP address change can be scripted with autohotkey before launching the game and afterwards you can script it to put it back like before, so this shouldn't be a problem.

FYI, Model 3 network doesn't work properly yet. Some games are now linkable, but due to the way in which you have to set the link up, it's impossible to run them fullspeed.

Heyo :)

Can you help me with "Mario Kart GP DX" ? I want to play it with my daughter, but the games will not connect to each other. I already changed the ID's  in the TEST MENU. Tried with different IP Ranges like 192.168.0.1 & 192.168.1.1
Do you changed something in the "NETCONFIG.CSV" file?

Sega Rally 3 is working fine with only changing the ID's.

Thx in advance

Learning TP is kinda tricky, and if you missed the boat when everyone figured out how to get a game working, it's hard to catch up. Assuming you have a new enough version to run and network MKDX, which is anything from about 9 months ago or newer, i'd get the readme file included in the download, and go through it from the bottom to the top with a fine tooth comb.

Possible threads on here that might help are:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,156263.0/all.html
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,154238.0/all.html

If that doesn't get you over the line, find the teknogods discord, jump on there and do some searches across all the channels, and finally, if you really need to, be unfailingly polite and beg people very humbly to help you.

I never networked MKDX myself, but i managed to get other games working by doing all that, and with some help on here.

@buttersoft thx man...

i have already read many sites and saw many videos (youtube). but nothing really helped with "Mario Kart Arcade GP DX" how to run it in network (LAN).

With Sega Rally 3 and Ford Racing i have no problems at all.

It would be a big help if someone that already got "Mario Kart Arcade GP DX" running, can teach me how to setup. do i really only need to change the ID's in the TEST MENU? Or are there any other settings need to change?

Just in case anyone finds this thread while trying to figure it out, as I did, it's actually very simple, or maybe it's just very simple now with the newer Mario Kart DX 1.10 dump and Teknoparrot 1.61.  Anyway yes that's all I had to do, give each cab a number in the test menu.

As someone mentioned for the #1 cab you just leave it, you don't have to do anything.

Of course make sure in Teknoparrot that you have assigned a control for the "Test" button.  Also make sure you assigned a control for the "Enter Switch" as this will be your ENTER button in the Test menus.

Using the Test button go into the test menu.

Select the second menu item from the top.

In there you will see the text "ID" and a number that can only be changed from 1-4, so it's quite obvious.  Set cabs 2/3/4 to their number.

That's it.  You might have to cycle each cab thru their Test menus again after this, or reload them completely if you wanna be sure, then they should detect each other.  Now when you start a game you should see it's waiting for the other players to join.

If only someone could get Cruis'n World (or USA) working with LAN/Network in MAME.  Would be awesome.  Was my favorite racing game growing up in the arcade.  One day i'm sure.
